They have split up. For me, the greatest band ever but they were really losing it recently.
Still thanks for the songs lads.

First big live concert I went to was REM in Landsdowne Road, possibly 2008(??), a brilliant show.
Saw them again at Oxegen in 08 and it was another stormer.
End of The World As We Know It has to be one of the best closing songs for any act.
A superb band and group of individuals though they have gone way downhill since Reveal. For whatever reason I have always thought Stipe would make a great author.Certainly hope he continues to work creatively.
Lansdowne Road gig was 1999 Runt.
WTF?
We were still in school when we went to that Runt  , To REM
Infact in 2008 there was no such thing as Landsdowne Road.
All the shite you spout and you think these cunts are the greatest of all time. Get to fuck.
Relax, relax, I meant to type 1998, but as Farmer pointed out it was in 99.
A great jaunt to Dublin for the young lads.
That’s a lot of typos to get 1998 into 2008. Reminds me of the time KIB Man had his big money bet.
Saw them way down the line up in Croke Park in 1985. They were hopeless live then. Saw them in the Simmonscourt in 1989 and they had really up their game.
I love Murmur and Reckoning and no fair-minded person could dislike Automatic for the People but my favourite album has always been Fables of the Reconstruction. Although hopelessly produced by Joe Boyd it has their best songs and it marked the point where they began to leave their Cowpunk roots behind and began to develop as stadium rockers.
I haven’t followed much of their recent stuff but their Live In Dublin album was super.
Never heard of them.
I couldn’t give a fuck what you think.
Now go away and continue your random insults at people you never met you weird prick.
Seriously tho, REM?
There’s not much on Fables of the stadium rock variety. In fact it is quiet a lonesome album I think.
Out of Time is my favourite. Cases could be made for every other album of theirs before that and Automatic afterwards obviously. Went downhill after that peak and hit rock bottom from Around the Sun afterwards.
Three of my favourite REM numbers

Ya Rocko, you got me. I actually thought it was 2008 when I attended that gig.
Can’t believe I was 10 years out. How embarrasing.
Farmer
I would have thought that Driver8 and Can’t get there from here would have indicated the beginnings of a stadium tendency
I prefer the quieter songs on that record, Wendell Gee, Green Grow the Rushes and particularly Good Advices
Did you go see REM that time they were touring with Oasis as support Farmer? Bit of a curate’s egg for you there.
Jesus there are a load of fantastic REM tracks, off the top of my head I’d go with Sweetness Follows as one of my favourites though.
Don’t get smart you little shit.
Of their new stuff I always had a bit of a thing for Electrolyte and At My Most Beautiful. Out of Time was indeed a classic from bqck in the day.
There was evidence of that on prior albums as well. So Central Rain for instance from Reckoning or Shaking Through from Murmur could have indicated stadium rock.
