Remember that discussion about drinking habits in ireland, well

Nowhere near for as long or as much in 1 sitting.

There social acceptances of what’s too much is different to us and the British.

It drops as much annual rain in Perth as it does in Ireland.
What’s the wetter place to live?
Which place is hotter?

You should have a look at Schelling Segregation model

Have you research on that? The Japs and Kiwis have massive youth problems with drink… The Austrians nearly always top any statistical poll for binge drinking and the Czechs are around the top too — there’s probably fuck all between Ireland and at least 10 countries… As always, you love to make Ireland the worst in any given scenario … there’s no one denying that we dont do it and that we have an unhealthy relationship with drink, but we’re far from alone there.

Where did I say all my fun was with drink ??

It’s OK. He will have anecdotal ‘evidence’ to support his opinion as fact shortly.

I did travel and “binge” drank there too but generally tried to avoid the oirish scene .

To be honest travel can be a double edged sword too when it comes to drink . Some fellas I know drank very hard when abroad .

Even if true (although stats say we are worst binge drinkers) why keep comparing to others as a source of “making it ok”.

We have a terrible relationship with it. Top in Europe for most dangerous type of drinking. What more do you want

I never said it was ‘ok’ - you’re trying to make the irish out to be worse than everyone else again… Did you drink yourself when you were younger?

We are worse than many of the worst if not all.

So we are nowhere near the people who have a good relationship with it.

I drank the shit out if it for 2 years. I was escaping. I had a terrible relationship with it.

I travelled and my perspective changed utterly

Fcuk me what a tough choice.

Ah more black and white arguing

I do 2 x 90 min sessions a week on my modelling course. 8-9.30 Mon & Thurs.

I can watch the rugby too. Maybe have a glass of wine too.

Neil Wankervile talking about UCC students wrecking the place - lots of uproar from local community recently - guards involved — he had a few vox pops from about 20 students and they all maintained that students arent drinking that much anymore, it’s all drugs now…

Lord Mayor asks pub patrons to Mansion House

Two weeks before elections, 50 visitors enjoy ‘refreshments, food and music’

The Lord Mayor of Dublin invited customers of four pubs from his electoral ward into the Mansion House two weeks before the local elections for “an evening of entertainment, refreshments, food and music”.

Nial Ring – who has already twice exhausted the free allowance of beer allocated to the occupant of the Mansion House – extended the invitation to the “patrons of The Bridge Tavern” in Summerhill, in Dublin’s north inner city, among others.

“This was an evening for the patrons of The Bridge Tavern, a pub I have drank in for 40 years,” said Mr Ring.

The evening took place last Wednesday, May 8th, just over two weeks before polling day in the local and European elections on May 24th.

Mr Ring has been Lord Mayor since June 2018, and is a councillor for the north inner city. Diageo provides 120 kegs of beer, about 10,560 pints, to the lord mayor’s office free of charge each year as part of a long-standing tradition. It is served to guests at events and receptions hosted at the Dublin city centre venue.

Mr Ring surpassed this free allowance in January and Diageo agreed to supply an extra 30 free kegs, although this ran out in March. Dublin City Council then bought 71 kegs of beer for €15,280 after the second allocation ran dry.

‘Horrified’

Mr Ring has previously said he would be “horrified at any suggestion that I was using the bar in the Mansion House to buy votes”. He has previously defended his use of entertainment funds.

In response to queries about the event for customers of The Bridge Tavern, Mr Ring replied “they are Dubliners who I wished to invite to visit the Mansion House for an evening.

“A priority of my term as Lord Mayor was to open the Mansion House to the citizens of Dublin and ensure as many as wished had the opportunity to visit the official residence of the first citizen of Dublin; 50 people attended. This was not a private party but an invitation to a group of Dubliners to visit the Mansion House, similar to other invites extended to other citizens of Dublin.”

Dublin City Council added: “Patrons of four pubs were invited to the Mansion House on the 8th May – a total of 50 visitors. The other three pubs were the Annesley House, Cusacks and Mullets.”

He was on Newstalk yesterday morning. It was pretty funny actually. He just brings in friends of his and people off the street in for a load of free pints and a bit of an oul sing song a few evenings a week. Tis grand.

I saw this chap last night pulling up in the mayoral car (191 D 1) outside a manky Chinese on the North Strand to pick up his dinner.

You’d really miss kev all the same.

He’s no Carmencita Hederman

It works out that they have been guzzling 65 pints a day plus wine every day in the Mansion House since he took office.
