Republic of Ireland WNT - We're all part of Vera and Tony O'Donoghues Army

With a 2 hour podcast

Everyone should stand outside the door at 9pm singing uh ah up the rah in support of the girls. Jist like when people were out clapping the nurses in the pandemic.

PR disaster my bollox. The only people who give a fuck are some bigots in the occupied 6, and some smug cunts on UK tv. Nobody else in the world cares. Keano praised Cork hurling on MNF on Sky a few days ago. I’m surprised Bryson and the other midget bigots haven’t ranted about him praising a “terrorist and sectarian sporting organisation” on UK tv.

The GVA (Graffiti Victims Alliance) will have a representative on The 6 One news later detailing how they feel the Irish ladies are promoting vandalism through the song.

Those who are defending the singing of the song are the same people who get most outraged if songs about the famine or “we hate Catholics” or Michaela McAreavey are sung.

They either don’t realise or don’t want to realise or are actually happy that they are the other side of that coin.

I dont think the outraged-on Twitter even realise just how common a song it is though among young people.

I was at a house party in Cork the night John O’Shea got the 94th minute equaliser against the German’s in Gelsenkirchen and at full time Celtic Symphony came on the speakers and sung with gusto.

But soccer chants bring out the worst in people. A friend of mine was at the Arsenal v Liverpool game at the weekend and said that the Arsenal fans had an absolutely disgraceful chant going about Sean Cox which would turn anyone’s stomach.

Everybody knows how common it is. It’s been like that for a long time. The point is it shouldn’t be. Ironically I think an unintentional reinforcer of it was the Rubberbandits’ Up The Ra song which was meant to ridicule barstool Republicanism, but like Ross O’Carroll-Kelly, ultimately served to glorify the very culture it was making fun of.

The very people who recite slogans like “the outraged on Twitter brigade” tend to be the very same people who were most celebrating the public shaming including losing their jobs of those who sing offensive songs on the “other side”, ie. they are the outraged on Twitter brigade.

This is the irony.

For the record I’m pleased the FAI and the team have apologised and I think that should be the end of the matter as long it’s made clear it doesn’t ever happen again and that any repeats will be looked at with less forgiveness.

It’s a very catchy tune with a hook which encourages everyone to join in.

Were they not singing “Ooo aa up Vera, I said Ooo aa up Vera?”

Any word on the status of the leaker. Hopefully she’ll get a wink of sleep tonight and inform Frau Pauw tomorrow of her decision to leave the squad.
In fairness, how could you continue as a unit with a colleague who’s first decision is to rush to social media and drop them all in the shit……

Out, out out….

Can’t help but feel that Tony O’Donoghue is largely to blame here. He was present in Glasgow and, if he’s as close to the squad and management as reported, he really should have warned them of the pitfalls of increased fame and scrutiny.

I fucking knew it was him. Even when I wasn’t saying it was him I was telling myself it was him

Can we come up with a list of appropriate songs Irish teams can celebrate with?

World of our own - Westlife

Some blueshirt on the radio earlier saying they should have been singing Paul Brady or the Cranberries instead like he did when he was a lad

They should do the honourable thing and withdraw from the world cup.

By the way, someone needs to inform the media its a Scottish song, not an Irish song*

*I think

Do you mean the Wolfe Tones song?
