Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Joe Lyng has announced his retirement from the Kilkenny senior hurling panel

never really kicked on when places were up for grabs. Announcing a retirement though, again, for the social media age we are in.

To be fair to him it’s easier that having people asking why you’re not on the team.

Did he ever even play for them in championship?

He wasnt a named sub for AI semi final. Looking at some of lads ahead of him Id say hed had his fill.

On the go non stop for 10+ years as a dual county minor. Won an u 21 AI football medal and played dual for club, college and division at all levels. An outstanding club man who was chairman of juvenile club for a few years recently on top of everything else. He has a young family as well now. This isnta surprise really.

I dont recall him playing championship anyway.

edit, quick search there, played some time in 2017 anyway in Championship

And as if all that wasn’t enough he’s a first cousin of Anna Geary.

He wasn’t much good anyway, not much of a loss

the brother was better

A hoor for the fucking drink. Came from the mother’s side - all martyrs for it.

Derry’s Mark Lynch. His talent deserved much better. A National League was as good as it got at senior level. Not sure if he reached the heady heights of a Dr McKenna.

But he did win the most prestigious medal of them all, an All Ireland Minor Medal, and in truth, thats all that really counts.

That’s fair going now in fairness. Must be a record.

Never heard of him. Does his departure from the inter county scene really warrant an announcement?

Class footballer.

What age is he? Derry have had some very stylish footballers in recent times but flatter to deceive. Lynch was very good though.

  1. Always though he was carrying a bit too much timber. Very like Sean Quigley in that regard - stylish fat footballer.

An All Ireland Minor Medal is not to be sniffed at.

A quality player who never seemed to get the structure he deserved, through whatever reason.

Did he play for Slaughtneil?

No, St Marys Banagher.

Lynch was unreal in the winter months but never really did it in the summer. He should be given great credit for his service to Derry considering the lack of with a lot of his peers.
