Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Saying someone is over rated often is misconstrued as someone NOT rating him. Which of course is not true, he was brilliant. His record of All Stars and medals are over doing his actually playing influence, which while very good is over rated.

I just think he is a media darling and got far too much attention for his role in some of KK’s best performances. He doesn’t stand out the way other “greatest ever” sportsmen do. And he was well handled several times.

Ollie Canning won All Stars for ‘keeping Eoin Kelly quiet’ which I used to find strange.

He even out scored him once in a championship game, 03 in Salthill I think it was.

If anything your sentence shows just how highly Kelly was rated.

His lack of pure speed naturally became more exaggerated as he got older but his intelligence, sharpness and finishing was great. The strength of his wrists and his quality finishing (I’m coming across all Cyril Farrell) were no more apparent than his goal against Cork in 2007. Brian Murphy had the pace to get back goal-side after Kelly collected the ball on the move before Kelly turned back outside and creamed a shot into the far corner from a fairly stationary position.

is there an echo in here?..that’s the point I made, you pond life piece of shit…

I was following up on your point by citing a specific example of what you mentioned. I was agreeing with you - you fucking mutant cunt.

Have to disagree here Kev, Shefflins influence on Kilkenny has been immense. Sure, the talent was there in the forwards anyway, but he was driving the bus up there all the time when he was fit. The conducter of the orchestra, no question about it, would we have been as dominant without him? No way.

Eoin Kelly was a wonderful hurler, certainly one of the best I’ve ever seen, definitely the best from Tipp. Having seen a fair bit of English, I’d have to rate Kelly higher. Career a lot like DJ in that he had to carry average teams for many years.

Yeah I know you didn’t say you didn’t rate him. But I think he’s rated about right.

Which all star? Ollie Canning is one of the best players I’ve ever seen. He was impeccable and the influence he could have on games from corner back was astounding.

why do I care if you agree?..you’re an odious , soft tissued cuntdog…

I never said you cared, you utter fucking simpleton. It’s merely common practice on a message board to quote a post you’re agreeing or disagreeing with. Now fuck off, you absolute dullard.

such a dullard that you feel the need to reply??..ok then…that makes sense…

that was 2008, he didn’t play against Cork in 2007 and started the defeat to Wexford on the bench Iirc

It does actually, you retarded prick.

'06 was the year Big Joe McKenna made a hero of Kelly by leaving Mark Foley on him…

The Eoin Kelly score I’ll always remember is the goal vs Cork down in PUC the year the crowd sat along the endline. Shrugged off the full-back, swivelled back onto the right and delivered a rocket into the top corner. An exhibition of strength and lovely, lovely wrists.

his goal against Clare in 2002 was probably his best score

Davy’s look of pure disgust as the ball rolled back out of the net in front of him.

Cummins had just made a great save from Gilli and the ball went straight down the field to Kelly who buried it despite the best efforts of a diving Brian Lohan

So good was his influence that Kelly did a job on him in 2010 as there was no other way he could beat him.

Kelly was prone to flaking alright. I don’t think I ever recall Ollie beaten by anyone over the course of a game. The best corner back ever.

Ah FFS.
