one of the greats. RIP
What good did he do for the North?
Very sorry to hear this. His involvement in the various tribunals and abuses of power will colour his lagacy, but his deposing of Haughey and his immeasurable contribution to the peace process outweigh them for me. RIP Albert.
Reynolds was not immeasurable in the peace process. He was in office for 20 odd years and didn’t batt an eye lid at the British terror being carried out in the north of the country. He was a quisling, the same as the rest of them and people plamasing him for what he did for the North make my skin crawl.
Farewell gombeen man
Haughey, albert. Bertie asap for the hat-trick!
He was the Taoiseach who negotiated the surrender of the IRA in 1994 and the end of IRA terror. For that alone his place in history is secure.
Adams and McGuinness led the Provision to peace from the late 80s
Mugging off Gerry Collins makes him ok in my view.
Oh christ, yeah, I think I remember you now.
“plamasing”?
Not quite how I’d frame it Manuel, but the place in history is definitely secure. Because Reynolds had kept out of Northern Ireland, he wasn’t beholden to any side and he knew it. He didn’t owe anyone on this subject and he used that and a business like approach to negotiating brilliantly. He was the right man at the right time to kick start an actual peace process, rather than the faux bollocks that had gone on before.
The game was up for the Provisionals by the late 80’s - Loughall, Gibraltar, the list is endless. All they were doing at that stage was slaughtering civilians like they did at the Enniskillen War Memorial in November 1987. Adams and McGuinness had no choice by the late 80’s having been all but defeated militarily to initiate the surrender process.
An awful year for country music continues.

You’re a fucking idiot who has no idea what he’s talking about.
Fianna Fail fuckers crawling out of the woodwork this morning. Brian Cowan up next on Newstalk, Mary O’Rourke was first on this morning.
They hadn’t really any other option by that stage, the campaign was doomed to fail. Spare us the propaganda normally served up by Shinner apologists that those two alone were responsible for the peace process.
And Ray Burke too, he didn’t hang about sacking him when he took over.
