Cinema in Ireland is cheaper than the mainland by and large, one of the things that is.
What boils my piss is hopper is staying with the folks as he’s got a job working in the tent at the arts festival. Luckily his uncle warned him to get a price off a taxi driver before getting in as he gets a taxi home at about 1am. It’s about 8km. Most charge 20 euro. Some cunt of a driver quoted him 50. He’s only a gasun. I asked did he get the reg, but he didn’t. He just said no thanks and got in the next one along.
My brother said same happened to him after he actually got home one night, your man said fifty euro. My bro told him to fuck off. Your man locked the doors and said he was ringing the Gards. “ring them” says the brother, settling in.
Alright, twenty then, said your man.
Both were overseas drivers. Paddy will rip someone off on occasion, but honestly, if you’re in another country earning a living, you should be above board out of basic manners if nothing else, not trying to extort money off a teenager.

Doesn’t make it right in any way but taxi drivers trying to fleece tourists / visitors is a thing the world over.
Sometimes in Ireland I’d swear the meter ticks up faster than a black cab in London.
Ya. We went into the heart of it today for a spectacular self mugging off. Knew it was coming but they got me good.
We’ll eat away from the centre from now on.

Uber is a godsend abroad. Know price in advance and it’s usually about a third of the price of a cab

I got a taxi home with one of them foreign lads one night. I had only €15:50 in my pocket. So I told him that’s all I had. He dropped me in the rain about 200 yards from my house. The second the metre hit €15:50.
One of the 2 Johnny’s was describing his own mugging off in some bar/resteraunt in ibiza famous for its views. 440 euro for 2 starters 2 main courses and 4 drinks I think he said…and wasn’t like a Michelin star spot…food incl nachos and goujons and stuff
There is a market about a 10 minute walk from the centre and you can eat like a king out there for fuck all. Well worth a visit, some of the local produce on offer is off the charts. Florence is a special type of mugging but some experience all the same.
