Road to Nowhere 2018

Argentina-Brazil finished 1-1. Lavezzi’s first half goal cancelled out by Lucas Lima’s second half equaliser.

A depleted Argentina currently 1-0 up away to Colombia after 66 minutes. Lucas Biglia with a tap in goal after 20 minutes.

With only 2 points from the first 9, a victory would be a much-needed boost to qualification prospects.

Paolo Dybala of Argentina denied a goal by the linesman. Marginal call but looked the wrong decision.

Dybala hits the post after 89 minutes.

Sergio Romero nearly concedes a ridiculous goal in injury time after charging out of his goal.

Argentina see out the four minutes of injury time to record an important 1-0 win.

So that’s Long, Duffy and Hendrick out of the trip to Belgrade for the opener in this?

Kolarov and Matic will miss the Ireland game due to suspension. It’s vital that Ireland get a result in this game.

Do those suspensions carry? Fuck, I’d forgotten that.

I’m a bit confused as to whether they do but if they do it is quite a loss.

For some reason I thought it was just red cards, but I’m open to correction.

I’m fairly sure yellow cards don’t mate, only a red card would.

It will be a very even group. Any of the top four sides listed will fancy their chances. We are away to Serbia first day out which is tough. The Welsh could well have a hangover after the Euros while the Austrians looked very poor in their three gzmes

As i said after the italy game one of the positives of the tournament is that despite having the oldest squad at the tournament we ended up with a starting team that is relatively young with a lot of players who will be the nuclous of the team for the next 5 years/3 qualifying campaign.

Murphy was the only starter over 30 and the likes of Brady and Hendrick have really come of age for us in the past few weeks. Lack of firepower might be issue and I don’t think Long can play up top on his own but they should at least be a competitive side over the next few years. Harry Artur will be a decent addition to our midfield too once he gets a run and establishes himself too.

Marc Wilson while nothing special along with Christie give us options at the back too

It will be interesting as to whether we can attract the likes of Scott Hogan and Nathan Redmond to the cause.

I assume Given and Jeane are retiring. O’Shea is probably done as a regular starter too. Slab will still be a live option for the next 14 or 15 months as we don’t have too many other attacking options. With O’Kane and Artur I’d say that Whelan will struggle for game time too.

Left back is an area we are weak. Ward did well today but is unlikely to be a regular at club level. While Brady is solid there I think he is better utilised somewhere in the midfield.

Who are the best prospects coming through from the u21s etc…Jack Byrne will surely be brought in?

O’Dowda.

Good shout I only saw a bit from him in that Belarus game, looked v impressive, but needs a move to the championship I’d be thinking.

I would also make Robbie Brady captain. He looks to be a real leader and talisman in this group and is a nailed on starter. Coleman will probably keep it but Brady is the leader of this group

The Borats have pulled The Squareheads back to 2-2 after being 2 down.

Walcott is an arsehole.

lads anyone on the way to belgrade in the morning?
im not but will probably go to Moldova and gerorgia
ive a good enough feeling about this group
as @Tassotti would say, Serbia could be anything really, im interested to see of the u20 WC success will roll over to success at this level
i think we can take 6 points of a gutless Austria , they are a one man show with an overeated Alaba at the helm, ive backed us to win tomorro night also, Georgia Moldova away will be where we’ll slip up tho

all eyes on kosovo tomorro , they’re still waiting on clearance for 7 players i see, that treacherous cunt Granit Xhaka has pledged his allegiance to Switzerland anyway in an open letter
, this is a disaster for the swiss FA really, their whole U-21 side is kosovan, i know @Big_Dan_Campbell was saying its a bit of a misnomer really and i agree with him really in a way
i presume they cannot be drawn to play serbia, they’re playing the home games in Albania anyway , id imagine they’ll turn over FInland tomorro night in a sea of vociferous nationalism,

Israel have Italy in Haifa… Italy to win to nil is the bet there
