I think its gone to a stage in most sports where you just have a Plan A and if Plan A doesn’t work, you do Plan A better until maybe the last 5 minutes where you throw in the big man up top.
They are but even their central positions were set early with Stones and Maguire and Rice and Phillips in front and Kane
I know it was only Andorra but they had Trent in midfield in a 3-4-3 yesterday. This from the land of Mike Bassett and “four four facking two”. As mentioned it helps that they have a few lads adept in the “half spaces” like Mount, Grealish and Foden.
Was it not more of a 4-3-3 with TAA in the three with Henderson and Bellingham with James playing RB?
As an aside, Bellingham looks like he will be something else. Looks to have it all.
I was talking tournament football for the major countries. They have the luxury of trying things out in qualifiers because they are always going to beat the likes of Andorra and Azerbaijan. We don’t have that luxury so for them what a knockout stage of a tournament is for us a qualification campaign.
At this stage it doesn’t really matter for this campaign as we won’t qualify but we should have a clear formation by the start of Euro 2024 qualification
Ken Early still firmly on board the Spock bandwagon.
“Just didn’t happen” - he changed the formation and mysteriously left out McGrath, who was maybe our most creative midfielder against Portugal.
I’m tired of being patient
What would you know about it in fairness?
I saw an Instagram story of an Ange Postecoglou training session one time.
He was whinging that the spine was ripped out of the team and there is nothing he could do about it.
He then elaborated that he meant that Richard Keogh got injured and Glenn Whelan was old and ignores that John Egan stepped in for Keogh at the end of the last campaign and has been our best player since and he then mentioned Randolph who he doesn’t bother to call up. He is a plumb.
Good enough for me.
Is the narrative now that we were never going to make Qatar and this campaign is about learning ???
Drawing with Azerbaijan was actually a great result
I’m inclined to give Kenny a chance. I feel he has inherited an absolute mess and there’s a lot of dross to be moved on and new blood to be given their chance.
However he can’t play McClean and then try to sell me the story that he is building something long term. He also needs to stop being interviewed because he comes across as a nawful bluffer
Azerbaijan manager might get the boot for it
There is a distinct possibility we could end the campaign winless . As things stand Lux away best chance .
Ken Early comes across like a lunatic on Second Captains. Trying to pretend like 1-1 to Azerbaijan isn’t a terrible result and then loses the head on Murph when he pulls him up on it.
