Our form under Spaletti was title winning stuff, 46 points from a possible 57. Had we recorded the same number of points in the first half of the season it would have won us the title this year.
The big thing for us now is whether we will hold on to our key men - the most likely to leave being Nainggolan, Pjanic and Manolas. There is talk of a need for us to balance the books.
We don’t need wholesale changes this season, we just need a few minor forces in key positions.
The players on loan this season have done reasonably well, Digne has had a good year, Rudiger has had a really strong second half of the season, El Shaarawy has brought goals and energy to our attack. Emerson seems to have had a bit of a look in under Spalletti so could be a good option to be Digne’s understudy. Szceszny has been decent in the second half of the season but do I trust him? No, I don’t.
We also have a number of loanees who could return a make an impact - Ljajic, Iturbe, Paredes, Sanabria.
Totti has been offered a new deal so everything should be ok there.
He has a release clause of €38m which he has activated and is also entitled to 20% of that fee, which he is foregoing in order to allow Juve to keep it so in reality Roma are only getting about €30m for him.
We’ll see, looks to have potential but Brazilians aren’t what they used to be. I really like the look of that Gabriel Jesus though from the bits I’ve seen though - think he’ll be a star whoever gets him - supposedly Inter have an agreement.
Hoping we keep on to Paredes this season, think he can go some way to replacing Pjanic. We’ve sold Sanabria to Betis for €8m but we have buy back options and 50% of future transfer fee so it’s win win if he explodes.
Manolas is someone we might struggle to keep, he wants €3m a year but we’re only offering €2m, he’s a quality defender and we’ll struggle to replace him. If the EPL clubs come knocking there is no way we can compete with the money they have.
Good depth to the squad with the likes of Paredes, Totti, Perotti, Iturbe, Juan and hopefully Rudiger and Rui when they return to fitness.
Not sure how Peres will be on the left but he would be more comfortable there than Florenzi I feel. I’d say we’ll most likely go with a back 4 to start the season off. Peres can’t play in the CL qualifiers as he missed the dealine, would imagine we will have either Vermaelen or Juan at left back tomorrow. A proper left back would be a great signing but I’d imagine that’s our window compleete now.
