Haughans in Glasgow is some spot. Never felt threatened there or anything but by fook is it a rough looking joint.
doc watsons in westside is well rough alright, as is mixers in town and cullinanes on eglington street.
I wandered into some shitehole in Glasgow before because it was advertising very cheap booze. Order my pint, sat down and then had a proper look around. It was only then I noticed that half he scrotes in the place had fooking UVF/various other loyalist tattoos. Got out the hell out of there very quickly.
Glasgow is rough as fuck. Stepping over junkies lying in the doorways is always a sign a pub is fairly rough and you could end up doing that in most pubs in Glasgow.
Is Doc Watsons the Westside tavern? Think its closed now. Think Cullinane’s is closed for ‘renovations’ too never drank in there but used call into their bookie shop a good bit. Surprised its gone as I thought it used do a decent trade.
Mixers is rough alright. Was in there one day during the day watching a Villa match. There were a crowd of scobes playing pool. Clowns told the barman to turn up the tunes while I was watching the mighty Villa. I was involved in a bit of high jinx there one night too so wouldnt have been going back too often.
how many years did you spend in Galway for a finish?
Never found any of the bars in Galway that rough though. The worst I was ever in was a bar near Villa Park. Cant remember the name but myself a few of the West Clare AVFC supporters club were looking for a bar around the ground a few years back. It is a pretty slummy area when eventually we saw some guy standing up against a wall with a Villa scarf around his neck. Asked him if he knew of any decent bars around the area, ‘away fans?’ he came back with, eh no we are Villa fans - suddenly he points like Fagan in Oliver twist to a ramshackle bungalow behind him - steel grids on the windows. ‘Throw a couple of quid in the bucket and head in’. We entered into a scene out of shameless. Families of lager louts with enough jewellery on show to make Bobby George blush. Everyone smoking. We got on fine inside actually but it was dog rough. The women in there were disgusting like dart players wives.
A donkey once got sick in a pub in Miltown during Paddies day. They brought him out of the parade. Gave him beer out of a bucket and he puked everywhere. Cant think of any real rough ones I’ve been in Clare. The hatchet inn in Ennistymon once alright and it was pretty minging alright.
Yeah it’s rough enough alright. Cracking boozer though back in the day when the republican flute bands were playing there.
I was in there before a few OF games with flute band playing and the atmosphere was unbelieveable.
The Stretford End in Killarney is a rough joint, its up an alley way off the main street and his owned by a big Man Utd fan,i stayed in a room over it for 4 days during a Killarney racing festival around ten Years ago.We had to climb up a fire escape at the back of the pub and then walk across a flat roof to get into the rooms which were sourced for us by a friend of mine who is an on course bookie, first night we there i was having a shower when a wan put her head in the bathroom door to tell me to put the fucking shower curtain inside the tray cos i was flooding the pub,the pub itself was a dark dirty kip infested with ever knacker in Killarney.
Jaysus are there knackers everywhere? I thought they only existed on the boardwalk in Dublin. I feel better now knowing other places also have knacker problems.
I’ve heard that rumour about the yacht club. I heard many a pair of dubarry yacht shoes and chino’s were ruined in there.
I was in Doc Watsons one day and a bloke came in and set a dog on another fella. The fella being attacked was roaring “I don’t know where it is” but your man seemed to disagree.
Norbett’s…lock this thread
Quilty’s would be another rough spot. That’s where a fella walked in with a shotgun last year but the regulars kicked the shit out of him and he had to be taken away in an ambulance.
Quilty’s would be a dive alright…The Haven and a few down around the train station would be rough as well
Sounds like the first day of the Edinburgh Film Festival scene in Trainspotting.
I wouldn’t have considered Quilty’s that bad. I think i was in the Haven before, well i was in a pub anyway that was a dive and was across from the station…
The Haven is down the side of the Railway hotel, down beside McLyserts and The Black Swan…
I was in the Stardust in Artane a few years back, the pub itself was nicely done up but there was a 21st on there and they were absolute scum. They got stuck into the bouncers at chuckin out time.
I actually think it was the same night as I went to that previous pub in Killester! It was one hell of a pub crawl.
