Even mcateer admitted he was a great player. If anything his leadership qualities were so good it meant people overlooked his actually footballing ability. He scored a lot of goals and was incredible passer off the ball. Rooney’s quotes on him tell a lot: “The thing that surprised me with Roy was his passing into a forward’s feet. He was the best I’ve ever played with getting the ball into the forwards.” Ronaldo also waxed lyrical about keanes ability as a footballer. He was streets ahead of anybody in the premier league during his career. The people that don’t rate Keane as a baller either didn’t watch him or just don’t understand the game.

He wasn’t. He was found out more often than not in Europe. He isn’t recognised by my Dutch football friends as a top class midfielder

That’s true. There was a spate of them around at the time, even a few who had a decent shot or a similarly reliable pass. He was the pick of them though. He made a lot of utd lads look like they were world beaters when they were nothing of the sort.
One lucky champions league suggest he didn’t make them look world class

The epl was poor when he played in it. I never watched it. Saw him outplayed by porto, leverkusen regularly though

Porto were.a.crowd of tramps who never outplayed anyone in Europe, including celtic. Bayer, or whatever German side were a sum if their parts. You couldn’t say that about utd.
Saw him in Europe and for Ireland
