but the irish people are desperate to hear trvor stevens insightful thoughts
Winter evenings versus Summer afternoons, it’s ‘% of available viewers’ figures you need to make that comparison
“The public want what the public get”
True
[quote=“tipptops*”]So - Premiership = 32 programmes x 141,000 average = 4,512,000
LOI = 44 games with TOTAL viewing figures of just over 1,000,000.
Despite having 12 extra chances to attract viewers, LOI reached about 22% of the Total that the Premiership reached.

you are comparing RTE with TG4 though:rolleyes:
not at all - may vs july is what you are comparing- something been shown on 4 channels vs something been shown on 1 channel - id love to see what Rural hobbyball gets in Dublin
TG4 is available to all households within the 26 counties, is it not?
factor in the 80 odd thousand in attendance at these fixtures, i doubt there would be 80000 Irish lads attending Champions League fixtures any given week.
yes but it doesnt get great viewing figures
1 game this summer got 80k :D:D
so when you factor in the 30k that actually go to games there is still a big difference - face the facts- rural hobbysports are dying*

I think the highest ratings RTE have had for Premier Soccer Saturday are 319,000 on 21st March 2009 (just after Ireland won the 6 Nations grand slam and just before Bernard Dunne fought).
Even on that day you had 744,000 watching the rugby and then 415,000 watching the Bernard Dunne fight so they couldn’t hold onto viewers for their highlights package for the Premiership which cost more.
Ireland v Bulgaria brought in 585,000 the following week as a comparison and by April the premiership highlights was back below 200,000 viewers each week.
Last week RTE had 119,000 viewers for Premier Soccer Saturday. That was half the Sunday Game viewers and less than the GAA highlights which had 186,000. Even Ireland v Australia had 132,000.
By way of comparison Reeling in the Years averaged around 400,000 (and that’s 5 sets of 400,000 in the week).

Ridiculous comparisons. Not just comparing The Premiership versus LOI anyway. Considering the combined EPL rights in Ireland cost 40 million euro and RTE paid a large chunk of that the viewing figures are appalling.

I can’t understand why anyone would fail to recognise and value the unique wonder that is the Gaelic Athletic Association while at the same time showing such devotion to the waifs and strays, the Arthur Daly schools of Economics and mock cockney accents of the League of Ireland,
every eye forms its own beauty I suppose.
But its available in all households. Thanks for clarifying that.

Those figures are staggering. Rights they paid for it are up there with John O’Donoghue renting hats as being massive waste of public money.

the simple fact is that showhouse is way way more popular than the GGA in terms of viewers
other fact is that more people have watched shamrock rovers on tv this season than every gga game combined
If Setanta Ireland goes bust then the ROI only rights for 3pm Saturday LIVE premiership games will go on the market.
Possible Bidders
RTE
TV3

Once
yes- why do you think showhouse is nearly twice as popular as the highest ranking gga ruralhobbysport programme?
