Ireland come into the world cup as the number one team in the world. They have just swatted aside their main opposition in their pool. They have a three handy games in a row left to top the pool. As things stand itās looks like they have a quarter final against the fifth best team in the world (youāll have the rubby lads telling you they shouldnāt expect to beat the fifth best team in the world, I donāt know why, at least apples said above that we should beat the fifth best team in the world but now heās arguing against that so itās hard to know what line the rubby lads will take). Win that and they have a semi final against the fourth best team in the world (apples has been arguing at me all week that the fourth best team in the world are shite so surely we should be confident for that one, but again, who knows with the rubby crowd).
As Iāve said all along, this thing couldnāt possibly be better set up for Ireland.

If they were playing anybody else in the comp bar New Zealand or South Africa in a quarter final things would be going better.
The lines are constantly moving around hereā¦ Two dsys ago Scotland were going to be a very tough test, and there was lots of ohhhs and awwws when Scotland released their teamā¦ This train of thought is now being transported to South Africaā¦ A team who were totally destroyed by NZ and 4 places below Ireland in the rankingsā¦
They have to play one of them at some stage if they want to win it.
Schmidt was basically saying it would be a huge achievement just to win a quarter final.

Why do you say South Africa are currently the 5th best team in the world? Iād rate the Springboks the 2nd best and that would be a fairly common view in rugby circles.

New Zealand beat South Africa by ten points with the help of the ref. Thereās very little between the two sides over the last 18 months.
