Rugby World Cup 2019 - Ireland shit the pot all over again

:grin:ā€¦

Should I delete it?

Ireland can get to 16 points. Scotland can get to 15. If Ireland lost by more than 7 Scotland could go ahead of us. At the moment itā€™s in our hands. It isnā€™t difficult to understand.

Too late.

Scotland will beat Japan.

Ireland will still get the easy semi final.

New Zealand could beat us by 50 points plus if we play them. The heat is an obvious factor. Peter Ć³ Mahoney was a Disgrace today.

I think the six day turnaround from Scotland v an eight day turnaround from Russia was a factor

But that cannot explain the complete collapse - it was a 19-12 thrashing

Japanā€™s approach to the game was so much braver than Irelandā€™s, exciting and expansive as opposed to staid and conservative

Teams have come back from group defeats before

South Africa did in 2015 after they lost to Japan, France did after they lost to Tonga in 2011

But South Africa were beaten by one point after leading the whole way, and France didnā€™t care against Tonga

England coming back in 2007 after losing 36-0 to South Africa is the only real precedent of a team coming back from a thrashing

Ireland will probably still make it to the quarters but a humiliation like that is very difficult to come back from

I canā€™t see them making much headway against New Zealand, theyā€™d be well beaten

Theyā€™re relying on the Scotch beating Japan to get a crack at the South Africans, and even then itā€™s hard to see them win

Same old, same old

At least theyā€™ll be completely written off, which has been proven once and for all is a prerequisite for an Irish rugby team to have a chance of winning an important game

Scotland couldnā€™t go ahead of us in reality. Ireland would be ahead on score difference. They just couldnā€™t be bothered trying to run the length of the field when they were tired

Also if Scotland went ahead of us Japan couldnā€™t go ahead of us so the bonus point is irrelevant

A man with no sense of humour

The narrative has shifted to all important losing bonus points nowā€¦

12-3 up and collapsed to lose 12-19 against a group of lads who only took up rubby three months ago.

Am I getting this wrong or is it not important at all?

If Japan win all their games Ireland finish second either way. If Scotland win the rest of their games Ireland finish first unless there is a massive points change but at lowest second if they hadnā€™t got the bonus point

The big problem is we canā€™t rest players now. Weā€™d no energy in that humidity.

Need a BP win against Samoa

Need two bonus point wins to secure qualification. Itā€™s still in our hands.

How are you expecting us to win a wc if we canā€™t deal with the heat

Two bonus point wins would have secured qualification anyway

Russia will pose a huge test.

Id say you have it right, but its about the narrativeā€¦

Japan play Samoa on October 5th

The Scotch have to play Russia on October 9th and itā€™s an afternoon match

And the Scotch have to chase a bonus point

So the Scotch canā€™t really afford to just pick their dirt trackers

Japan play the Scotch on October 13th

I think Japan will pick them off

Ireland will not be able to rest players against Samoa on October 12th now whatever happens

That is a big negative ahead of a quarter-final
