If Ireland had managed to score a try and conversion (highly unlikely) they would have got one more point and Japan would have got two less. That would have have meant both finished on 17. The head to head would have been equal and Ireland would have gone through in first on a better points differential

When Ireland lost to Japan there was a lot of casual racism in the reaction of the once every four years crew
They could not understand that Japan were actually good at rugby
They had completely written off the fact that Japan had beaten South Africa at the last World Cup
Eamonn Sweeney in the Sindo (I found it on a bus) said it was the worst Irish rugby performance of all time, and never gave any credit to Japan
But this was not the reaction from the real rugby men here like @ChairmanDan and @gilgamboa - well done lads

Schmidt v Hansen is 2 v 2 over all as ireland v New Zealand mangers but in this cycle itās schidmt 2 Hansen 1.

@ChairmanDan has been a contradiction and a mess since the tournament started. He doesnāt know what he stands for.
Its much of a muchness really whether its New Zealand or South Africa. As we said all along, the real stuff for Ireland in this tournament was only ever going to begin on the weekend of 19/20 October. Its been shadow boxing for Ireland up to now. This Ireland team was too good to fall at the pool stages but will need to up the level of performance significantly now if they are to have any chance of toppling the back to back reigning world champions, New Zealand.
Not really much of a tournament. Calling off dead rubbers and tournament only starting nearly a full month after it begins.
The scummy soccer crowd will a field day with your statement.
