No they are odds on to be eliminated in last 8. A glass ceiling they have never been able to break through even though only 6 teams in the world seem to care about rugby. The ranking system is skewed towards winning meaningless friendlies. From what I can tell they played 5 meaningful games this year and got hockeyed in 2 of them.
The only world rankings that matter will be the ones on November. These are essentially preseason rankings. Theyâll bear little resemblance to what the rankings will show in November.
Thatâs not what you suggested. You said not making it past the QF would make Schmidtâs tenure a failure which a very different thing.
Failing to make it past the QF would be very disappointing and we travel with probably our strongest squad weâve ever brought to a World Cup. However it should be noted that two genuine powerhouses (5 of the 8 world cups won between them) potentially stand in our way in the quarters.
Getting eliminated at the last 8 in an 8 team competition, twice, would be a serious stain on his record as a coach. It would suggest he couldnât win when it mattered and all his other achievements would be viewed in that light.
But we are no 1 in the world?! How in the name of christ is not getting past a QF not complete and abject failure for the no 1 team in the world?
The limerick hurlers were heavy favorites to win the all Ireland and had some sort off self induced meltdown in the semi final versus an awful Kilkenny team nobody rated. I didnât hear many limerick supporters describe not getting to the final as complete and abject failure.
I heard a lot of people saying it was a failure and we left it after us.
They are 8/1 and odds on to be knocked out in the QF. There is a massive opportunity for you guys to get very rich here
Glas moving the goalposts again
He will be crying now soon that he cant get a straight answer
According to latest Paddy Power odds Ireland are fourth favourites to win the tournament at 8/1. Irelandâs two possible quarter final opponents are favourites and third favorites.
New Zealand 5/4
England 4/1
South Africa 9/2
Ireland 8/1
Wales 9/1
Australia 12/1
France 25/1
Argentina 40/1
Scotland 40/1
The bookies are rarely wrong and they are saying Ireland wonât get past the quarter finals. Do not lose hope though. Coach Schmidt has consistently defied the odds and overachieved throughout his six year tenure.
Debatable.
Youâd be happy with fellow Limerick native CJ keeping that spot?
They won a holiday.
Cricket be similar. Hurling also.
@glasagusban initial comment was coach joe schidmt should have achieved more in his 6 years so far with the players heâs had during his tenure.
i think everyone said it was a failure and we left it behind us⌠For The no.1 ranked team not to progress past aQuarter final, that would be a massive failure.
You never grow tired of it?

You are being very harsh here.
If they get out of a group containing top class sides like Russia, Japan and Scotland it would be an amazing achievement.
Navigate that first before worrying about a quarter final.

GAA types get very worked about what the perceive to be a lack of competitiveness in rugby. Maybe they should be focusing on their own sports. Only three counties have ever seemed to care about hurling and one of those Cork donât seem all that fussed about it anymore. A competition that the hurling crew call the âAll Irelandâ Hurling Championship even though its not an âAll Irelandâ competition as only 10 of the 32 counties are allowed compete in it and three counties account for nearly 75% of the titles won, 94 out of 132 between Kilkenny, Cork and Tipperary.
The tears of pride and joy that rory best showed in those big brown northern eyes is what itâs all about. Events like the world cup come and go, but itâs the brotherhood that lives forever.
