Rugby World Cup 2023/ Crochet & Knitting chit chat

Iā€™ve no idea chief.

I had to ā€œdo my own researchā€ on this; anything less than a semi final berth would be a disaster by the looks of it:

1, 3 and 5 teams in the world in the same group. Progress from the group and you meet either the 2 or 4 team in the world.

Toughest draw in the history of sport?

Itā€™s still not as tough as the Munster hurling championship.

Fiji are up to 6th after the weekend

Australia will be in with passports for their first 15 any day now.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed Murray kinsellas World Cup send off on the 42 today.

Murray outlines the challenges heā€™s facing heading to France for six weeks including travel, accommodation and the various suitcases heā€™ll need to bring with him.

Iā€™d say Murray feels like he is heading to war like the American troops landing on the Normandy on d day.

As I listened to the podcast I was thinking of the dozen or so posters on here who are probably already drunk on this mundane Wednesday afternoon that would have their week ruined by listening to Murray discuss his adventure.

A lot of begrudgers on here would be disgusted alright that a young man like Murray from a disadvantaged part of the country could rise to the top of the sports journalism game so young. Murray has put it down tough in the past and I wouldnā€™t begrudge him this one bit :clap::clap:

Ger Gilroy has the Scots and New Zealand completely written off.

A lot heā€™d know about it

Josh van der Flier was collecting a Milkshake from Bunsen this evening according to my sources.

Are these fellas only codding themselves going to France next week they are?

Would be very Irish to put out the second team v South Africa and then lose to scotkand

They probably are only codding themselves but a milkshake and a burger wonā€™t be the make or break of it

Since when do Bunsen do milkshakes?

Does the suggestion by those hyping up the tournament that it is the most open of all time stand up to any scrutiny? Surely England being an absolute rabble means there is 1 less contender from the usual list. Wales may have been dark horses previously but are in a woeful state now, and Australia are only possible contenders due to the lopsided draw. The standard of the top teams might not be as good as previous tournaments, but the list of genuine contenders is still less than a handful.

Does it being open only relate to the ultimate winners?

I think some of the ā€œhypeā€ as you call it is down to the improvement in the Pacific nations and a genuine expectation that they could prove to be competitive in the pools and cause a few shocks.

Whether they will or not is another story

It was in relation to eventual winners I have seen the discussion about it being possibly the most competitive ever. But itā€™s a good point you make about the pool stage - who are we likely to see emerge from their group as a surprise? At the moment the most unpredictable part is trying to figure out what country individual players will represent - just when I thought Iā€™d a handle on it lads go and switch teams again.
