I think there are 8 granny/lineage and new Irish in the squad for Ireland at the RWC which is just over 24%. Remarkably similar the ROI football squad who traditionally have relied far more on those sorts of players but have the exact same percentage in their squad for the football qualifiers.

Great to see both continuing to recognise the diaspora/new Irish etc.

Can’t call a player up unless there’s an actual injury. Hodnett or Penny were never capped and Timoney is nowhere near good enough.

If a player got suspended they can’t be replaced. It’s only if an injury is confirmed (think it has to be external medical staff to the backroom) or exceptional circumstances like a bereavement where they can be replaced.
