Rugby World Cup 2023/ Crochet & Knitting chit chat

Thornley is still busy whining about referees from the last two rounds. He’s probably aware he has an extra day to start whining about the unfairness of the final.

This is his prattle today 10 days after Ireland we’re knocked out

“On the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, although a fan of Wayne Barnes, Corbisiero believed that two of the scrum penalties against Ireland in their quarter-final loss to the All Blacks were incorrect. Others, such as Shane Byrne and Bernard Jackman, have also called into question some of Barnes’ scrum penalty interpretations against Ireland in that quarter-final.

On one occasion, when he is being advised by one of his assistant referees of a penalty against the All Blacks on the other side of the scrum, Barnes can be heard saying: “Not for me.”

And all of this is aside from refereeing interpretations at the breakdown, an example being that Ireland firmly believe Brodie Retallick should have been penalised under the All Blacks’ posts early on when the score was 0-0.“

Thornley wants the goys to be able to ref it themselves.

In fairness, the draw wasn’t right because Ireland had to play a tough team in the quarter final. That clearly wasnt right.

Now looking back, nearly two weeks later and analysing each second of the game against the All Blacks, there were certainly little things that could have been given to Ireland as well as the two scrum penalties being suspect. Finally, the All Blacks got too much off a lead at the start game which wasnt fair.

The rugby world cup should be scrapped and replayed.

He’ll be back whining about the “heino” soon

The six Nations apparently isn’t at the right time either, which isn’t fair.

They are adding 4 more cannon fodder? That’s exciting.

They’ll reduce the number of group games. There’ll be less one side fixtures.

So they’ll go with six groups of four teams?
Then?

  • Top two from each group plus four best 3rd places teams into a round of 16?
  • Or winner of each group and two best second place into QFs?

If the former you’ll surely have as many hidings as you have now.

Nah they’ll likely do 6 groups of 4. Though I think they should do a straight league format like the new Champions League format.

That’s what I said, 6 groups of 4. What happens after that?

Hearing that Uruguay and Chile were NOT included in the secondary tier cup. Absolute bollocks.

Sorry misread.

There’ll be less hidings with that, absolutely. 36 games vs. 40 currently in the group stages.

They should be reducing it to two countries. Let the rest fight over a comb.

In the group stages. But what happens after that, a round of 16 or straight to QF? If the former, you have 8 more games and more than likely a load more batings.
