If you havenāt played for a country for 3 years you can play for yours (or parents) country of birth. Itās designed for the likes of Tonga really but few other counties using it.
SA must be low on 2nd row stocks to say they are using someone who has been (massively) surplus to requirements for Irelandā¦ good honest player in fairness
Iād be v surprised if he made the SA World Cup squad. In there as much for his Irish player insight possibly.
I know he get a lot of love from pro-Munster Twitter accounts but to be honest heās not really a player Iād fear coming up against and Iām not convinced heād make much impact at international level
Its a joke alright. The whole project player residency rule always bugged me. Going back to his country of birth is fair enough but its still a joke that he was able to be capped for another nation. I am overall a fan of this rule in the sense it was brought in to allow the Pacific island nations play players who might have a handful of caps for oz and nz, those countries have lost plenty of talent through the years as they have always struggled financially and players playing abroad were able to greatly enrich their family at home with big wages, again cant blame them.
Was trying to think of anything remotely similar earlier and failed. Hartley maybe being sent off in premiership final for calling Wayne Barnes a cheat and missing the lions
Heās come back in cold and played well a bit beforeā¦but this is a different kettle of fish alright. Tonga will definitely be a physical test for him one heād be avoiding in normal circumstances youād imagineā¦
