Frawley one I’d have taken instead of Osborne. The latter by far more promise and going to be brilliant but I’d have had frawley simply for the amount of positions he can cover and his kicking ability.

Then again, only a short flight for injury replacements if needed and neither him nor Osborne likely to be in match day squad.

Hodnett certainly playing out of his skin but not sure whose jersey him or Penney would vie for if one was ahead of the other? Both specialist 7’s and not going to offer cover across back row even tho both have played 8.

Didn’t spot him. Both in so.

I’d still have taken one or the other. I’d have gone back 3 specialist then. As it is looks Hansen is cover for Keenan at 15. Haley probably too much of a specialist 15/not a winger but another who this morning might have been hoping to get the nod given the season and form he’s had

jvdf is the only real 7 in the squad. I’d have thought hodnett would definitely be in there even for training purposes. He’s a different sort of build to the rest.

Glad to see Coombes make the cut. This be the last season he’ll be sat behind Conan I’d say but, for this world cup, can’t see him getting selected ahead of him unless something big on training pitch gives him an edge.

Agreed and so hodnett will be kept on the waiting list for the summer I’d imagine. There’ll be handful fellas told be available at drop of a hat and wait for phonecall all summer in event injury and there’s always a few cases of those selected but don’t make the tournament

They don’t have to make those decisions yet though. It looks like they’ve only taken guys they think are real live options to go and ruled out the rest. Pretty ruthless in a lot of cases.

If this doesn’t show how mercenary the residency rules are then I’ll throw my hat at it. Not getting a look in with the Saffers a few years ago and suddenly he’s Irish? And now he suddenly gets all patriotic and misty eyed for the high veldt a few months out from the World Cup? Gimme a break. I know they are the rules and all but really.
