Russia Vs Ukraine (Part 1)

When was this?

I haven’t time to be answering your endless questions. I’m busy watching the BBC

Fox News coverage of the fighting and analysis is the best of lot and I’ve watched 8 channels the past week. The stuff back in studio is rubbish then after, just bring everything back to having a pop at sleepy Joe .

They had an American version of our own Tank on live from Kiev earlier, he had already drilled 100 civilians. I’m coming round to the thinking when you see the red on the map now it’s all about Black Sea landing points for Vlad. The convoy not moving and Kiev still only being bombed remotely, Vlad doesn’t care about them at the moment but we are still selling it as Russian incompetence and desertion is my fear.

An awful lot of effort getting expended trying to rationalise Putin’s motives. It’s been pretty obvious for most of the last 20 years what a dangerous bastard he was. He’s completely lost his marbles now though which makes him all the more dangerous. He’s a madman who could do anything.

@Cheasty i have seen a few tweeys sayingthis, can you verify it?

If true we are all fucked. Top tip when washing your haor you can use shampoo but dont not use conditioner as conditioner will help radiation to stick to your hair.

No biggie lads but there’s a fire due to fighting at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

And they’re now continually firing at it. That’s it then, NATO have to act now.

In order to prevent a nuclear disaster, we have to allow Russia shell Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

This is insanity.

That siren is about the scariest thing I’ve ever heard

They’re actively shelling the plant. Stating the obvious, but this is incredibly serious.

It’ll be 10 rines worse than chernobyl wtf is their plan here

This is definitely one time you hope things are being hyped up way beyond what they are.

At this stage it can’t be anything other than provocation surely? There’s no choice but world war now. NATO can’t avoid this any longer.

Fuck.

Its only worse that fire is getting.

Any good stream to watch?

Some lads are talking about it here. I have no idea who they are.

I think this live chat stream is an avenue this forum needs to go down.

ok, everyone needs to take a step back and not jump to conclusions. Stay with me. Yes, a fire at any nuclear plant is a bad thing but there are a few things to know. The reactor here is a VVER type, not the same RBMK that was at the Chernobyl plant. 1/

We don’t know what we don’t know. There is a major difference between a support facility or storage building being on fire, and the plant itself being heavily damaged. But the design of the VVER is inherently more safe and protected than the Chernobyl RBMK systems. 2/

VVERs have containment buildings and when they stop workingeven in emergencies should enter a safe state. The danger is that if the building and plant was heavily damaged in some way that those safety systems might fail. 3/

As my respected colleague @james_acton32 has pointed out, there will be a need for the plants to have external power to be fully safe, and to have active cooling. We don’t know the status of the system or the power and until we do, we won’t know the full extent of the risk. 4/

If the building is not damaged and if the reactors entered safe shut down, and have secondary or tertiary cooling systems then there should be little risk. If those conditions are not met, there is a significant risk. 5/

And of course this is completely the fault of Russia and tjheir attacks. Russia must stop all operations around the plant and allow Ukrainian response units - and European experts and equipment as needed to access the site immediately and without any restrictions. 6/

Now, we don’t know if there is a major risk or not. The only appropriate response is to allowed full national access by Ukraine and accept outside assistance as needed. Russia bears the blame, but until we can see what is happening there people should just pause and breathe. 7/

If the containment vessel is undamaged and if secondary or outside power is in place or can be restored, then there should be little risk. But it is massively irresponsible for Russia to have taken any action that put this plant at risk.
