Ryder Cup Wild Cards

i reckon they’l put the experinced guys with the rookies something like

harrington/rose
garcia/wilson
westwood/poulter
casey/hansen
stenson/Jimenez
mcdowell/karlson

i dunno tho its hard to know what nick faldo will do he’l prob go and put two rookies out together in the first pairing. good man nick

Is US golf (outside their core of 3 or 4 really good players like Woods, Mickelson, Furyk and whoever) as strong as it was a few years ago? I can’t think of many other deserving wild card choices but I’m not that knowledgeable about golf. Yer man Zach Johnson’s game has gone to shit for example.

I see Harrington has had a little cut at Faldo for not picking Clarke although Sky Sports have turned it into Harrington backing his captain

Padraig Harrington insists he is happy with the selection of Ian Poulter and Paul Casey as Ryder Cup picks ahead of Darren Clarke.

The Irishman has said that Clarke deserved his place on the team after two recent wins, but captain Nick Faldo opted to pick two Englishman in Poulter and Casey to complete his European team.

Open Championship and USPGA title winner Harrington will be spearheading the Europeans at Valhalla after his amazing double Major success this season, and he is standing by his captain’s selections.

“It’s obviously very disappointing for Darren, but a captain has many reasons for picking guys, and that’s why you select a captain,” said Harrington.

Clarke omission
"We all expected (Clarke to be chosen) but as a player on the team, you’ve got to go with the captain’s choices.

"Often, during the week, partnerships are put together that maybe we didn’t think about, and that’s for the captain to do.

"He lives by it too. When the result is called in at the end of the week, if the team wins, the captain is a good captain; if the team doesn’t win, the captain is always thought of as a bad captain.

"It’s he who’s on the line for this, and the players have to support him and pull behind him.

“Certainly, the two players he has added to the team are good players and will help.”

Yea, thats not exactly a ringing endorsement for Faldo. Gotta love Sky…

Harrington may be getting his excuses in early by blaming the captain

“When the result is called in at the end of the week, if the team wins, the captain is a good captain; if the team doesn’t win, the captain is always thought of as a bad captain.”

i wouldnt underestimate the us team too much. they have some great players like Kenny Perry who has won a few times this year and little Anthony Kim whos a great player, Boo Weekly, mickelson, furyk etc.most of the wildcard choices have been up the leaderboard throughout the year. dont really agree with the choice of hunter mahan i would have picked rocco mediate instead. having said that tho they will have to at their very best to beat europe.
