Motherwell take an early lead at Fir Park

@Cheasty posted up footage on Friday which definitively established that the referee correctly awarded that penalty to Glasgow Rangers against Aberdeen. The Glasgow Celtic conspiracy theorists here have been made to look very silly over the past few days. One of them was even claiming that the Glasgow Rangers v Aberdeen game was going to be postponed at the request of the home team on account of the sad passing of Walter Smith. It went ahead at the allocated time on Wednesday night.

A clear indication that there are lunatics on both sides of the debate then. It would be interesting to have a discussion on it but I learned my lesson once on here when I suggested Kieran Tierney is injury prone. As an aside, I think Tierney has either gone off injured, or missed out entirely through injury, in 7 of Arsenal’s 13 games this season so far. He is also currently injured.

The champions have come from behind and are leading 1-4 away to Motherwell.

The Huns on commentary for Sky would sicken you.

The proud Scotsmen in blue belting out God save the Queen.

Thumping 6-1 comeback win for the Gers in Lanarkshire today. I don’t think any of us would begrudge them the victory after Walter Smith’s recent passing. #FootballFriends

Villa making a move for slippy it seems

I’d rather he stayed. He’s a pretty average manager.

He’s been good for them in Europe (though fortunate). His record in Scotland is far more mixed than the current narrative would have us believe but he is settled there and has a well organised team. Mid season disruption isn’t ideal for them.

Not ideal for him. I think he’s fairly average, they’ve been indebted to Celtic dropping cheap points this year and referees bailing them out. Two seasons before the title would have been disappointing for them domestically. Some decent European results but they have had a few kind EL group draws in contrast to Celtic.

Now Rangers could get their next managerial appointment spot on or get it very wrong. I’m confident though that Ange can get the better of Gerrard, particularly if we strengthen the midfield in January.

Regardless of celtics meltdown last season , The more I see of Rangers the more remarkable an achievement it was for Gerard to take them through last season unbeaten … they are such a basic team footballing wise…

Largely made up of English Championship journeymen

they don’t have much ability to play their way out of trouble like Celtic under Rogers could … it was more grind …amazing in a league where the majority of teams are grind too that you go unbeaten …

But that’s the level of the Scottish Premiership. I’m not goading supports of the league from here but, with a couple of exceptions, the clubs/managers/players are at best English Championship level.

At the risk of being dubbed a biased conspiracy theorist, their unbeaten league season was aided & abetted by the usual sources. There was numerous retrospective red cards dished out, helpfully missed by the on-field officials at the time, obscene penalty awards/denials & so on. They also carried a lot of luck & the analytics types (I know, I know) were constantly saying that it was unsustainable for them to keep outperforming expected goals at each end of the pitch. Apparently they’ve regressed to the mean this season - hence their defeat at Tannadice and other dropped points. Sure lookit, it was a good achievement alright but they didn’t win a cup and Rodgers’ undefeated treble winning team with Sinclair, Dembélé, Tierney, Brown etc was a far better side. Celtic were a disgrace last season too, they didn’t apply any pressure on them whatsoever.

Gerrard was a major winner from the pandemic. He was going to be under serious pressure in Summer 2020 when he was likely to finish 20+ points behind, we were absolutely flying at that point. We all know what happened next at this stage but hes no great manager.

I think hes average at best and will fold if Ange puts pressure on but the disruption alone could be worth it. Like the proper sewer rat that he is, Gerrard will do what is best for Gerrard. Losing millions every month but if he thinks he can squeeze a few more mil out of them to spend in January from this and it might bring him a cm closer to his beloved LFC job he will hang around. I don’t see a poor Villa side helping him get that job down the line, which is ultimately what hes all about. I think he’ll stay for now and will bring the newco closer to the point of no return
