Bit of talk about it on the grim up north thread so thought I’d set up new thread on it. Real battle between SNP and UK government now over the following…
Timing of vote.UK Government want it in 2013 while SNP want it in 2014.Cameron wants vote over before major cutbacks
Questions asked.UK Government want simple in/out question while Salmond wants third option of devolution maximum which falls just short of independence
While SNP are riding very high lately I don’t think it’s all down to great desire for independence. I think if UK Government get their way on simple in/out question I think it’ll be rejected. Hopefully gets messy anyway
It should be a simple yes/no vote. Or else off with Salmond’s head. Wonder how Scottish independence will work if they no longer have their sub from London, seeing as most of the population is on benefits.
They make a lot of their oil rights and things like that. Fair bit of tourism too but you’d imagine they might have a fairly weak economy on their own.
Bit odd that the “nationalist” party are the ones hoping for a diluted question. Tories will rarely be out of power in England if Scotland goes its own way though.
The Scots won’t do it. Not a chance. For all their Braveheart, ‘the kilt was banned you know’, nationalist bombast this ‘parcel or rogues’ are so assimilated into the British colonial machine that they’ll never leave it.
One of my work colleagues, who is English, reckons there is an easy fix to all of this. Give Scotland to the Argies and keep the Falklands. That way, Scotland escapes perfidious Albion, Argentina gains a dominion and Celtic will actually have some decent clubs to play against next year (in the General Belgrano Primera Division). Everyone’s a winner.
The scotch and whelsh won’t be leaving the tit of mother england.
Those poor downtrodden fucks with independence would be like a mule with a spinning wheel.
They lack the gumption that we had over the last few centuries.
When’s the last time either of them shower had a rebellion, failed or otherwise?
We may be clueless as to how to manage ourselves, but at least we have the privilege of being able to do so.
Fuck the whelsh and fuck the scotch, it’s too late for them.
@Raymond Crotty - how do you have the campaign going at present? I see Standard Life today threatened to pull out of Scotland if they vote for independence.
Concerns over the ability to join the EU as confirmed by that cunt Manuel Baroso, and currency has seen an increase in support for the no vote. When the undecided votes are taken out of the equation it is 44% in favour of independence and 56% to remain part of the union. Although Katie Hopkins probably did enough to swing the vote the other way last night by her radical and inflamatory comments about Irish republicanism and being pro thatcher. Stan Collymore even had a go off her on Twitter. Both political masterminds and intellects of note.
Will be defeated for sure. Considerable amount of SNP voters won’t vote for it and while support of greens and socialists makes for an interesting sort of anti politicis coalition with SNP the support for it just isn’t there without more on Labour Left advocating independence. Been an interesting enough campaign but DEVO MAX is best nats can hope for in next ten years.
As an aside Andrew Neal’s interviews on this topic have been poor for standards of BBC. Quite biased.
