Sean Treacy Ceremony of Remembrance - Talbot Street, Dublin, Midday 7 September 2014

I was reading a book on Dan Breen there recently. It made reference to his comrade Sean Treacy. Seemingly, every year Tipperary make the All Ireland Hurling Final, there was a ceremony of remembrance at midday on All Ireland Final Sunday at the spot in Talbot Street where he was killed. Is this a custom which still exists to this day, or has it lapsed with the passing of the years?

Still exists, I believe a challenge match is played above in Dublin on All Ireland weekend as well

Poster @Mullach Ide does it each time Tipp are in the final, a great tradition.

Festy will sing it instead.

Festy with the Festy

Glad to be attending again in three weeks time.
:pint::pint::clap:

Do Kilkenny have any comparable traditions to this on All Ireland Final Sunday?

Yes.

Practically every year one Kilkenny person is selected to walk up a steep set of steps, collect a trophy, give a bad attempt at a speech in Irish and walk back down again.

It happens nearly every year.

Each Kilkenny supporter brings a small bag of flour and pisses in it for good luck.

That’s a hell of a clamping right there

You clearly haven’t been following hurling very long if that’s your historical standpoint on All Ireland finals. Of the 59 All Ireland Final’s Kilkenny have featured in, they’ve won 34 and lost 25. That’s an overall success rate of just 57%. Things have certainly improved for them since the turn of this century as going into the 2000 final, Kilkenny’s record in All Ireland finals was won 25 lost 23 but overall its a strike rate in finals that compares poorly to the two other historical powers of the game Cork and Tipperary.

By comparison, Tipperary have won 26 finals from 38 appearances, a success rate of 68% and Cork have won 30 from 48, a success rate of 63%.

Imagine spending time researching that just so you could attempt a comeback at his harmless jibe:D

+1

That is pretty pathetic.

It was only a bit of banter and perfectly timed. I fell asleep after the first line of @Manuel Zelaya 's response.

TBH I struggle to get by the second line of all the verbose nonsense he posts.

Kilkenny people didn’t fight for independence

Ah the cute cunts. None of the risk and all the rewards.
