Getting plenty of literature in the post now ahead of the upcoming election. Ronán Mullen is the stand out candidate on the National University of Ireland panel and will be getting my Number 1 vote.
I just had a look at the full list I can vote for. Averil Power is running.
I think I will vote for the science guy.
I’ll be giving my old mates Kev Cunningham and Willie Priestley a vote each in the University of Dublin constituency.
I’d also like to see Tom Clonan be elected.
Give me a reasonable pitch for your chaps, my votes are available.
Willie has been an entrepreneur since the age of 14 when he made chocolate chip buns each night and sold them in the school playground at lunchtime. He also has political experience as USI president circa 2003 and from what I remember, ran for the Green Party for the Seanad in 2011. He was/may still be a social worker in Limerick and very courteously accepted an invite to a gig I played in Whelan’s in 2008, which went disastrously due to me having been drinking for the previous 36 hours. His being a fan of rugby football may turn some potential voters on this forum off however.
Kev is an old college mate of mine and a sounder chap you couldn’t meet. We soldiered together on various Irish rivers around a decade ago as part of our beloved DUBC, before Kev unforgivably turned traitor and joined UCD. He appears to be a bit of a political poll guru these days. I think he may have worked on Stephen Donnelly’s campaign/s in the past. I’m hoping his election to the Seanad will mean he’ll no longer have to share a flat with Paddy Cosgrave, if indeed he still does, and I hope for his sake he doesn’t.
2 cunts
I see the NIHE’s in Dublin and Limerick are doing their usual whinging about not having a vote.
Michael McDowell is getting my vote
Which one is the science guy?
I think I gave a traveller lady the vote last time.
Averil will surely give the incumbents a good run. Ivana has nearly lost as many elections as her.
I just assumed one of them would be a science guy, turns out it’s an IT guy.
Went through all the candidate’s literature tonight. Your “sounder chap you couldn’t meet” was nominated by COTY contender Paddy Cosgrave! He also worked in a strategic role for the English Labour Party in the last election and comes across as a bit of an arse in his literature. Bottom of the pile.
The other chap, Mr Priestley, seems like a decent enough sort.
I’m going to give my number one to Dr Staines, followed by Clonan, Brennan, Priestley and Ruane. @Midshipman_Asha, Staines is the closest thing to a scientist on the list (medical doctor) and his policies and experience in trying to make our healthcare systems more efficient appealed to me.
The votes that will actually count start then. Bacik seems to be the best of a typical Trinity lot. Power really doesn’t seem to have anything to offer so Norris will get a tentative nod ahead of Barrett and herself.
I already mentioned that Kev Cunningham was/is? a flatmate of Cosgrave.
If a friend of mine is also a friend of an enemy of mine, he’s still a friend.
Splendid performance by my good friend William Priestley here on the Vincent Browne Dublin University Seanad debate.
Disappointed that my good friend Kev Cunningham is not involved in this live television showcase, however.
We really messed up not abolishing this nonsense when we had the chance. How much are we paying the likes of Bacik and that bloviating arsehole David Norris to talk shit every year?
Reading through the NUI literature, there are at least three candidates claiming Fergal Quinn’s endorsement. It would appear he is trying to elect the entire panel.
In the NUI elections, early tallies indicate that Michael McDowell and Ronan Mullen are home and hosed. The third seat is ‘difficult to predict’.
Ronan Mullen. FFS sake.
Looks like I won’t have the winner in the EPL race, but backed the winner here. He’s well clear of McDowell and will top the poll.
Some year soon Averil Power is going to win an election. Unsuccessful in the Seanad elections this evening.
That boot annoys the fuck out of me. The sense of entitlement out of her.
