It is what it is
and what it is needs no excuses
Have they just got rid of the lobster pot menu or is that whole place closed?
Is the OāConnell Grill gone as well?
I am very sadned to hear this. To me it was always The Lobster Pot. I donāt think I ever went in there after it changed to the New York name. Curry chips, battered cod and a tub of mushy peas were the job after a night drinking ā¬2 shots in the Market.
I brought this to the boards attention back a few months ago, i believe it to be the case
Yes, in the past 6 months we have seen the closing of the following premises:
- No1 OāConnell Grill
- The Yellow Road
- The Lobster Pot
To see these giants of the chipper scene fall by the wayside is frightening to say the least. Who could be next? Luigis? Fuscos? Donkeys? It doesnāt bare thinking about.
Where was the Yellow Roadā¦The other three you named are all far closer to the working class housing in Limerick and will never go out of business unless the government completely cut off social welfare
Fredas will pick up all the slack now, people will travel in busloads to graze there.
In other news I see that shithole PJās Place in Thomondgate changed hands and is renamed. Still a shithole Iād say.
PJās Plaice otherwise it a stupid name for a chipper
Thought it was decent enough 5 years agoā¦a fine saucy burger to be had in thereā¦Fredaās like the other chippers named by runt will always due well due to its location
The Yellow Road was funnily enough, situated where the Yellow Road (the road running along the top of the peoples park near the train station) meets Lord Edward Street.
Pretty much as working class as you can get.
Yellow road was as Runt says smack bang in the middle of a load of council houses. Suffered Iād imagine from competition with the more well known Luigis and from newer Chippers opened in proximity such as Rioās and a Kebab/Pizza place beside the station
Yellow road = never a big fan, the place was filthy.
Lobster Pot= had gone to shit as NY Pizza
No.1 = Meh
You have to be the most negative fucker in the world
Only a man with a heart as black as coal and as cold at stone could be apathetic to the plight of these limerick eating etablishmentsā¦
Why?
Can you say you have used any of these chippers regularly in recent times?
I would have fords, cafe lazio, Luigis, Rios, Fredas, Cheap as chip, enzoās and the Golden Grill all above these three.
Yes, I would also have them above those 3 (except Rios, which I havenāt sampled)
Itās one thing for those establishments not to be your Chipper of Choice, but itās another thing to dance on their graves.
If these chippers arenāt good enough for Limerick, they are not good enough for me, thatās all Iām saying.
Not a fan of Rioās. Never been to Cheap as Chips.
They would have been revered as treasures in any other city.
āBut they all gave it up, for the Bateman Cup
Was won by the Yellow Roadā
