Bale, itā€™s a recurring issue.

It is a fair point though. I donā€™t even think we need someone at that level either. Lads like Joe Allen and Steven Davis have bosses games at international level - both are a cut above anything we have had in centre midfield since Stephen Reid

I think it was you that mentioned Xhaka earlier. He looks like a world class player with Switzerland. A midfielder like that is worth a lot more than a box to box type in international football.

We need to find two things from this campaign.

  1. A solid defence - weā€™ve gone soft and are being bullied under Kenny.
  2. A goalscorer - the boy Parrott needs to step up.

But but but Wesā€¦

Yeah, a fella who can play deep and take the ball off your centre halves under pressure and play the odd telling pass. International football is played at a slightly slower clip than top level club football so suits those types of players.

It allows you to play on the front foot and open things up. We donā€™t even have a midfielder who can take the ball facing his own goal and turn with it.

And thatā€™s why we should be playing Robbie Brady. Heā€™s not as good as those mentioned but at least he looks to get on the ball and create. He wonā€™t dominate a game but you need to have someone trying to influence it a bit and we tend to go for safer options in midfield who wonā€™t let us down but wonā€™t cause problems for anyone else either.

Ger Dunne the stats man was and probably still is a better keeper than that Travers chap

Twas a tipp cunt started the rot

I thought Brady looked like a future captain and talisman for us with his vibrant performances at Euro 2016 but he never built on it. Injuries havenā€™t helped and I think his own versatility has counted against him a bit too, he had been shunted around to different positions by Oā€™Neill especially and never got much continuity in terms of nailing down a spot.

Browne is a tidy footballer. Heā€™s not near any of those lads mentioned but heā€™s able to play and he likes to play a forward pass. Heā€™ll lose the ball a bit as a result and people will get frustrated, but heā€™s more likely to open teams up than anyone else we have.

Are we being too harsh on Travers? Check out the Azerbaijan keeper for Portugals goal :see_no_evil:

I think Browne is the lad who plays the advanced role in a three where he can make some third man runs and support the front two. What we miss is a guy who can set a tempo and get the ball off the defenders consistently and just keep it simple, Cullen was ok tonight but looks panicked on the ball at times.

Goal aside I didnā€™t think Browne did much tonight.

Yeah he hasnā€™t progressed as hoped. The McCarthy Hendrick Brady midfield trio looked like the future but theyā€™ve all had huge injury and form problems.

But we do need a bit more guile. Maybe Browne will be that player but I think weā€™re writing Brady off too soon like we did with McGeady who similarly wasnā€™t trusted enoug. He should have been backed by managers instead of asked to track back to full back relentlessly to match what Stephen Hunt brought to the team.

I think heā€™s talking about here

An experienced striker scored a wonderful goal against an inexperienced goalkeeper. At international level.

Ye need to let him go

Imagine if we had someone like Billy Gilmour coming through. Cant even make Scotland squad.

Based on what I saw he looked very average last Sunday v the might of Sheffield United
