Hard to believe, but in two weeks time we play our first WC qualifier, with three more before Christmas. Serbia away first up will be a difficult task.
What’s our likely team and how are we shaping up?
Coleman hasn’t played for Everton yet this season and Koeman said he was still a couple of weeks away on Friday. I’d say he’s unlikely to be involved so Christie is the likely replacement. Duffy is suspended after his sending off at the Euros and recent newspaper reports suggest O’Shea will stay on so it’ll probably be two of O’Shea, Keogh and Clark. I don’t think Hendrick’s accumulated yellows at the Euros carry over to this but open to correction. I don’t see too many changes myself but maybe the team needs to be freshened up. More likely O’Dowda and possibly Hogan or someone gets a squad call up.
Randolph;
Christie, Keogh, O’Shea, Ward;
McCarthy, Hendrick;
Walters, Brady, McClean;
Long.
O’Shea was stretchered off for Sunderland yesterday, mate.
He might be doubtful for the game so.
Is this game not next weekend? Or is there another round if EPL to froth over still?
The match date is in the thread title, pal. We’ve a friendly in Dublin against Oman on Wednesday 31st too. I think there are club fixtures this weekend in all the home nations, right across the British Isles.
You’re right and I apologize to the OP, @fitzy, for questioning his integrity.
Limerick play Oman this weekend coming I think so hopefully we soften them up before next Wednesday.
Thanks mate, I would be greatly upset if my integrity was questioned in any way on this forum.
John Egan is surely worth a call into the squad - Duffy isn’t what you’d call ‘in form’ of late
I was based out of Middlesex, West London last week for work and took in a Brentford game. I watched Egan closely. Bar one rash tackle, he was fairly solid against an average Forest side and his confidence is high after scoring 2 from set-pieces the previous Saturday against Ipswich. If Duffy can start against France then Egan is certainly worth a squad place.
On an unrelated note, Griffin Park in Brentford is worth a visit if in the area. Probably one of the last real old school grounds left. Fans super close to the pitch, proper terracing behind the goal, floodlights and stands from the 1970’s, a real local working class feel to the crowd - all made for a very decent atmosphere in comparison to the sanitised new modern stadiums being built.
lads
shane duffy shouldnt be near the squad or any future squads
presume he’s been banished to training with the youth team after his escapes at blackburn last few weeks
Shane Duffy is SUSPENDED.
thank God

Robbie Keane has been included in the Ireland squad for the upcoming games against Oman and Serbia
Callum O’Dowda also in 28-man squad.
The belief is that Robbie’s inclusion is just for the Oman game, and that it will be his International swansong.
I fully expect this game to now be a sell out.
Oh man
Assume Doherty will get a call up if Coleman is out
We have a squad capable of winning nothing, that’s the sad reality at the present moment
