Serie A 2016/17

Hard to see anyone other than Juve.

Some big signings there with Alves, Benatia, Pjanic, Pjaca and now Higuain on the way.

The signing of Higuain to me almost certainly means Pogba is going, but I think Juve will be even stronger this season, quite surprised they didn’t make Cuadrado permanent last season as he was very good for them.

Roma look a rabble - Pjanic gone, Digne not made permanent, Rudiger out for the season. That’s three starters there and two of them key players and I think the replacements are certainly downgrades in all three positions. Expectations are underwhelming but hopefully Spalletti can work his magic.

Napoli have lost their talisman in Higuain, so far they have only bought in Tonelli and Giaccherini. Hard to see them repeat last season. Bacca looks the most likely replacement, good player but not at Higuain’s level. I think they will struggle this year.

Milan, very underwhelming summer market so far. They are trying to push their main striker out the door and the only signings so far have been a striker in his mid 20s from Serie B and a full back from River Plate on a free who might go before the summer is out. I’m not convinced about Montella and sacking Mijhalovic last year was ridiculous and he was doing quite well with them.

Inter have been very quiet this summer, a couple of free transfers arriving in Banega and Erkin. Ansaldi has arrived from Genoa. They look to have a decent squad overall but Mancini hasn’t really looked like making them click. Icardi could possibly leave as well. I expect a similar season compared to last year.

Fiorentina, another side with a very underwhelming transfer campaign so far. Sousa has done a good job with them and it’s evident the money is simply not there. I’d say they will struggle this season.

Lazio, an absolute rabble. Bielsa fucked them over, now they have thrown in a novice in Simone Inzaghi. Candreva, Anderson, Keita all trying to angle for moves away.

Torino have made some good signings and Mijhalovic is a good appointment so I would fancy them to pick up a Europa League spot this year.

Overall, I don’t see anyone mounting a big challenge to Juve this year, the gap is widening even more if anything. Hopefully someone can pull a surprise on us though.

Fixtures have been set now, most appeasing opening weekend fixtures would be:

Juve - Fiorentina
Milan - Torino

Did Juve try and keep Cuadrado do we know? I assumed Conte decided he wasn’t for sale.

Don’t think they could agree a fee.

Apparently Cuadrado wants a move back to Serie A in any case.

Enrico Chiesa’s 18 year old son starts for Fiorentina tonight against Juve. Hagi’s son is also on the bench for Fiorentina.

Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Dani Alves, Khedira, Lemina, Asamoah, Alex Sandro; Dybala, Mandzukic

Juventus bench: Neto, Audero, Lichtsteiner, Rugani, Benatia, Evra, Marrone, Hernanes, Pjanic, Pjaca, Higuain, Zaza

Fiorentina: Tatarusanu; Tomovic, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Astori, Alonso; Vecino, Badelj, Chiesa, Bernardeschi; Ilicic; Kalinic

Fiorentina bench: Lezzerini, Dragoswki, De Maio, Sanchez, Diks, Milic, Tello, Mati Fernandez, Babacar, Zarate, Rossi, Hagi

Smashing header from Khedira.

Dybala is sensational.

Chiesa’s boy has something about him.

Kalinic levels matters.

Higuain with an immediate impact.

A very youthful looking newly promoted Pescara lead Napoli 2-0.

Ex Primavera product Gianlica Caprari with the second.

Juve and Lazio on now guys.

Lazio have made some much needed defensive reinforcements in the summer but have lost a lot of attacking threat in the likes of Candreva, Klose and Balde Keita’s departure seeming imminent. Interesting to see how Inzaghi Jr gets on in charge of them in the coming season. Immobile should be a great signing though.

Inzaghi will make a fine manager. He is a great student of the game. He was harshly treated by AC when they were down sizing and in transition. A thankless job

It’s Simone, mate.

@Nembo_Kid how much did Immobile cost Lazio?

A Lazio stalwart. What’s his coaching experience

€9.5m I think was the fee - a bargain. Top scorer in the league 2 years ago.

Simone has been looking after the youth teams for the past few years.

Napoli play Milan tonight guys.

Immobile working the channels and doing very well playing against the Juve back three up top on his own which is a difficult ask.

Felipe Anderson has looked threatening as well.

No real chances of yet.

Dybala is magic. His awareness and inventiveness are up there with the best around.

Immobile has been immense, great play from him there to skin Benatia.
