Serie A season 2011/2012

I see young Chavez is on Napoli’s bench tonight, don’t think we’ve seen him since his summer arrival, it would be nice if Walter would introduce although he could be saving him for the cup midweek.

Walter was obviously tuning into TFK as Chavez is coming on now.

Miccoli grabbed a consolation with a wonderful header.

And Napoli take the spoils in the southern derby with their first Serie A win in Palermo since 1969!

6 out of the top 7 had wins this weekend, with the exception of Lazio who were thumped 4-0 by lowly Siena.

AC v Inter tonight

Tomorrow, Chewy.

La Magica travel to Catania tonight.

Even better

Long live the resurgence of Serie A

Tomorrow’s derby will be a titanic encounter. Inter are playing some great football at the minute, I have the height of respect for Ranieri and Pazzini is one of my favourite strikers so kind of an unusual feeling to be rooting for Inter in this one.

Wonderful play by Victor Ibarbo - a player I have mentioned in the ‘relatively unknown players’ thread has set up Cagliari’s equaliser against Juventus. Cossu the scorer.

Lichsteiner has to be one of the rattiest cunts to ever step on to a pitch.

I’ll be supporting Milan tonight. Must be the best part of 7 years now since I attended my last Milan derby. It’s days like today when I really miss the occasion.

Del Piero denied from close range there. An Inter win would also aid out title hopes. We haven’t gone away you know!

Borriello making his Juve debut replacing Vucinic.

I wish Marco all the best, Vucinic on the other - hope your career goes down the pan.

Juventus have been very poor today, can’t see them winning the league. They lack the firepower up front. Vucinic and Pepe just aren’t good enough.

Krasic blows a magnificent opportunity in injury time after good work from Borriello.

totti, as the resident serie a expert. what sort of nick are inter in? they havent totally gone to shit have they? i ask because pp are offering 11/4 on inter tonight, surely worth a tenner?

We bring you the latest team news for tonight’s Milan derby, including injury updates on Thiago Silva, Wesley Sneijder and Julio Cesar.

The Derby della Madonnina is a crossroads for both sides this evening, as Inter can get back into the Scudetto race and Milan aim to keep up with joint Serie A leaders Juventus.

Massimiliano Allegri is without Alberto Aquilani, Gennaro Gattuso, Mario Yepes, Taye Taiwo, Mathieu Flamini and Antonio Cassano.

Clarence Seedorf is suffering from flu symptoms, so could miss out entirely, while Thiago Silva left training early on Saturday with a thigh problem.

If the Brazilian doesn’t make it, then Philippe Mexes will probably partner Alessandro Nesta in central defence.

Much revolves around Kevin-Prince Boateng. If Massimo Ambrosini plays, then the Ghanaian will be used as a trequartista, but if Boateng takes the midfield role then Urby Emanuelson starts behind the strikers instead.

Alexandre Pato is increasingly the favourite to start alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whereas earlier in the week Robinho had been expected to play.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri hinted at using all three in a trident, but that would be a huge risk in such a big game.

Inter have their own issues to contend with, as goalkeeper Julio Cesar is expected to play with the aid of a pain-killing injection for his back pain.

The real doubt revolves around Sneijder, who has not featured at all since November 2 due to a series of injury setbacks.

Claudio Ranieri is tempted to throw the Dutchman in from the start in a 4-4-1-1 system behind lone striker Diego Milito or possibly Diego Forlan.

This would pick apart the side that has notched up five consecutive Serie A victories, sending Giampaolo Pazzini to the bench.

Ricky Alvarez is set to retain his spot on the left side of midfield, while Andrea Ranocchia is heading for the bench in favour of Lucio and Walter Samuel.

The only Nerazzurri absentees are Dejan Stankovic and Sulley Muntari, the latter on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ghana.

Probable line-ups

Milan (4-3-1-2):Abbiati; Abate, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Zambrotta; Boateng, Van Bommel, Nocerino; Emanuelson; Pato, Ibrahimovic

Milan bench:Amelia, Bonera, Antonini, Mexes, Ambrosini, Robinho, El Shaarawy

Inter (4-4-1-1):Julio Cesar; Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Nagatomo; Zanetti, Motta, Cambiasso, Alvarez; Sneijder; Milito

Inter bench:Castellazzi, Ranocchia, Chivu, Poli, Coutinho, Forlan, Pazzini

Inter are in excellent form. 5 straight wins in Serie A. Beat Parma 5-0 last week, Milito and Pazzini really finding their form as is Maicon, injury problems clearing up - Forlan and Sneijder back tonight. Defensively they have improved as well but still a little dodgy at the back. I see signs of Ranieri repeating what he did at Rome when he took over from Spalletti where he started off slowly but took us from nowhere to very nearly winning the title. I backed Inter for the title at 14/1 last week. A win tonight and they are only 6 points off top spot, they could also possibly sign Tevez this transfer window as well.

Milan have injury problems at the minute as well so I think Inter are fantastic value tonight.

Results from today.

FT Lazio 2 - 0 Atalanta
FT Cesena 3 - 1 Novara

Good news for us with Udinese and Juventus dropping points. In addition to the Milan derby this evening, Napoli play Bologna tomorrow.
