Lots of players back from injury and in contention. Roberts made the bench last week but didn’t get any game time. I’m not sure the current system suits him anyway - Sinclair’s loss of form has sort of cost Roberts too because the natural width has been from wing backs.
Now Armstrong and Boyata are back training and apparently both are in contention to play tomorrow. Even Ralston is back (playing a youth game today).
I was thinking Sinclair would be dropped after his latest poor display last weekend when he was taken off at half time. Edouard did really well but it’s the type of game where McGregor seems more likely to play and he’s done well in them in the past. Aside from that, the only other decision of note is at the back with Lustig suspended. Compper was alright last week but it was his first game in months. It might be risky giving Boyata his first game in 3/4 weeks too but we don’t really have a right back option.
Rogic was ok last week and got the opening goal last time at Ibrox but I’d be more inclined to drop him for Edouard if someone was to make way. I think he’s just a bit looser and McGregor does allow us to change the shape a bit when he’s playing because he can play a few roles. Tavernier has generally followed Sinclair in field and everywhere when Sinclair has played but he might find that harder to do against Rogic or McGregor who won’t go out to the flank at all really.
I honestly think a 32 County Republic is achievable within our lifetimes. It’s within reach. But to get there we need to win games like today. We need to stamp on these fuckers when they’re down. Today is a vital step in the pursuit of Irish freedom.
