Sevco v Celtic - Saturday 31 December 🇬🇧 ☘

that’s a good post
w.r.t linesmen i remember a while back on here i recommended to a few armchair heroes to go to an LOI first div game and go down to the line and imagine you are the lino, the abuse these boys get is raw, its actually utterly fucking disgusting, i was at a cork city and bray game in 2007 and we were up with the away support, a few of the cork fans started a chant about the linesman raping seagulls (in front of children), this is the type of people who attend soccer, and yes they are the same all over the world, the “kop” may look beautiful from your couch but yes at soccer mathces you have a disproportionate amount of these articles gathered in one place
do any people on here actually attend games or play?.. i can tell flatty you have and @backinatracksuit… the utter bile that you see in soccer grounds is sick… and the worst thing is peole will say, yerra a LOI ground is full of knackers, ill cheer on the pool on TV… i guess heysel looks safer from a distance, etc

back to the point linesmen are odd
my dad got a box after the pop kelleher cop final in turners cross off a fella from Ringmahon

In terms of the league table, yes, however Celtic also won Scottish Cup ties in 1990, 1991 and 1997.

Celtic’s record in league derby games between about 1991 and 1995 wasn’t atrocious, they always managed at least one win per season and sometimes broke even or better over the course of the four matches.

Rangers did assert dominance in head to head meetings from the start of the 95/96 season onwards, however, and that continued through the 1997/98 season and beyond.

It wasn’t until the 6-2 thrashing in August 2000 that the wheel turned for real.

FYI information bhoys, and re posts about Celtic in the 1990s, yesterday’s come from behind win was the first ever such victory against Sevco and the first win after going behind at Ibrox since 1993 when a John Collins freekick and late Brian O’Neill goal overturned a Rangers lead goal.

did Paul Byrne score at Ibrox once upon a time?
a 1-1 draw maybe

Funnily enough, there was a spell in the early to mid 90’s when Celtic had a good record at Ibrox. They won in Lou Macari’s first game in charge in October 1993, won 2-0 again there the following August at the start of the 1994-95 season. They were unbeaten in the league at Ibrox for the three seasons 1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96. They won as well 2-0 at Ibrox in March 1992. So in 10 league games at Ibrox over the five seasons from 1991-92 to 1995-96, Rangers only won once, Celtic won three times and there were six draws.
I was reading on the paper this morning that Celtic’s win yesterday was the first time they came from behind to beat an incarnation of Rangers since they came from behind to win 2-1 in October 1993 on Lou Macari’s debut.

the 5-1 trashing on a saturday afternoon in nov 1998 when Moravcik was on fire was the turning point for me

You’re automatically assuming that had Liverpool drawn with Chelsea, they would have waltzed into a 3-0 lead at Crystal Palace in the same way they ended up doing.

That might not have been the case at all as the situational dynamics would have been much different.

As it turned out, the Palace game was always likely to be irrelevant, given that Manchester City were clearly going to win their last two games at home to poor opposition.

Liverpool’s last chance really went when Everton didn’t bother trying a leg against Manchester City.

He did. A volley or half volley from the right hand side of the box.

he was over with us last year doing a coaching course
that man has had a chequered life to be fair

I had just mentioned that as well without seeing your post. You’re a little off on the John Collins goal from a free kick. That was in the 2-0 win the following August. Collins equaliser in that game was courtesy of as big a goalkeeping howler as you’ll ever see from Ally Maxwell. Have a look at 16.30.

go on…

But the loss didn’t come from going all out. It came from a Gerrard slip when he had dropped between the centre backs which is not an attacking strategy at all.

the collins free kick was a 2-0 win when the away support was banned?

It really wasn’t, given that Rangers went on to win the treble that year and the double the next year.

Celtic did recruit quite well around this time, however and a good number of the players signed by Wim Jansen, Dr. Jo Venglos and even John Barnes would go on to become key players under Martin O’Neill.

Sky showed a 3-1 Rangers win from 1997 in the build up yesterday when Erik Bo Andersen (or however you spell it) came off the bench to score two late goals after Di Canio had equalised. This was when Tommy Burns was in charge and I think it may have been one of the games when the officials conspired to screw Celtic if my memory serves me correctly. Was this the game where Cadete had a goal ruled out for offside despite being as onside as the various Celtic players yesterday?

The support was banned when Collins scored the freekick alright. I confused the 1993 and 1994 games and apologise profusely.
