I have no great love of golf, but Seve always seemed like an alright sort to me, a sporting gentleman and a funny bastard.
RIP.

golf is a great game lads, its hard to play which is probably why some people hate it. There is far less of a snob element playing it these days although like any sport it has its quota of cunts.
great way to get away from the missus for 6 or 7 hours at the weekend.
Thinly veiled āIām really good at golf I am, have I told you that?ā
hit the flag from about 120m yesterday mate. you should have seen it. ball landed at the bottom of the flag and spun about 2 feet from the hole. Naturally I missed the putt for birdie. But still what a shot.
For the golfers on here, I played Doonbeg when I was back. Didnt think it was all that to be honest although it was in great nick. Lahinch I reckon is a more genuine golf course.
So Doonbeg is an imposter golf course?
In the words of our learned friend TASE (with apologies to his ickle friend MBB) -
I dont have any such mate Fitzy. Please do not misquote me.
Golf is not a sport.
Im surprised a Joycean scholar such as yourself interpreted my sentiments in that manner.
I cant think of the right word for it really but as an example, Villa Park is a great football stadium, rough around the edges but a great place to watch a game. The Emirates is a superb facility and entertainment complex but it lacks authenticity.
Actually Ive got it, Lahinch has more soul than Doonbeg. The golf course has also seen the passing of many a comely maidens virginity over a long number of years. I think this alone also adds a certain mystique (or mystic as Kev would call it) to the atmosphere of the golf course. Standing on the shoulder of giants kind of thing.
