Shinty & International Rules Series Thread - again, yes it's happening fucking again
You are probably right on talent. But he is no1 now. If guys don’t want to play they can’t be considered.

Who is no.2 in your head? No real stand out to me. All the others have major flaws.
Probably a lot of goalkeepers around the same level. Brendan McVeigh, Brendan Kealy, Robert Hennelly are all good. Eoin Culleton of Laois is a good keeper, granted I haven’t seen him play that much. Niall Morgan should mature into a good goalkeeper. I think Shane Supple is a long way behind Cluxton.

I used to quite enjoy this series but when played and promoted like it has been over the last few series they’d be as well off abandoning it for now at least. Either promote it and hype the fuck out of it or don’t bother.

Nobody can say that the second match in 2006 didn’t have the atmosphere of a serious sporting event. There was genuine anticipation for it and the Australians took it deadly seriously, as was shown on the pitch.

I’ve a certain amount of sympathy for the media line the Australians took after that match. It’s either a serious test match, or it’s tame exhibition stuff like last night. And if it’s a serious test match, you can’t really blame players for doing what they feel is necessary to win, within what they feel they can get away with. Sure they engaged in complete filth, but you had to have a perverse admiration for it.

There have been some good series in this event. 1998 and 2002 were very enjoyable. The second match in 2006 as I said had the air of a serious sporting event. The 1999, 2003 and 2005 series were very well contested. But both teams took those series pretty seriously.

There’s been a real half-assedness about the promotion of every series since 2006. If the GAA and AFL are going to be half-assed about it and completely sanitise it, they might as well not play it.

Kealy and Hennelly both very suspicious in the air.

Who was the Monaghan keeper, he was pretty impressive.

Agree on those points. The Monaghan keeper was excellent in all facets of keeping this year and very commanding in the air. Rory Beggan* is his name - think he’s young enough^.

  • may not be correct
    ^ may not be young

That was certainly the high-/lowlight. That short clip cuts out some magnificent goalkeeping ineptitude.

As if you didn’t watch it.

He does seem rather out of position alright

Are they in Al Qaeda or something?*

*I am aware there is a chance some CIA robot may be reading this and add the two lads’ names to a list of terrorist suspects. If this happens, I apologise in advance to them.

There is no such thing as Al Quaeda.

I see Cavanagh has had quite a cut off Eglish in the media over the weekend.

Why do you hate freedom?

Bizarre that the same company in Australia had Ireland as favorites.

he was absolutely septic on Saturday. woeful with his shooting and general play. made one or 2 good tackles and that was about it.

Not really. Making money from patriotic bets on both sides while netting it off in the middle for a profit. Sounds like good business sense to me.
