The fifth member of my Leaving Cert class passed away over the weekend. This time as a result of a heart attack.

Fucking hell.
The lad had his issues in the past and I was in way relieved to hear it was a heart attack after I heard he passed away. That’s the way the thinking goes now unfortunately.
One of the things I took from a religion teacher in secondary school when I was in junior cert was his pronouncement that by age of 30 , 40, 50 etc a certain number of you will have passed away. He said it in the context of death being a part of life and discussion about morality. Needless to say the room was aghast and dismissive but time has proved him right.

- Meningitis

One lad in my leaving cert class through suicide. One lad who left after the Inter had a heart attack and died at the age of 42.
I can think of two that passed, but not sure if there are others. One (early 20s) farm accident and the other (early to mid 30s) suicide in Australia, but the depression started/ was heightened by a work accident.
There was a great tradition in my primary school of at least one person from each year getting murdered before they had turned 20.
Fuck that seems very high. RIP.
When was the last time you were brought in for questioning?
The cystic fibrosis sufferer in my case had been ill for a long time and it was thought she wouldn’t live much into her teens. Her brother of a similar age had the same issue and died a couple of years before her. Tragic stuff.
The lad who died of meningitis passed away the January after we finished school. I spoke to him at the Christmas and he said he had been out for 10 days straight, as you do when you are in college. I wonder was his immune system low as a result.
The suicide victim was a complete tearaway. I am not sure if that can go any way to explain it.
The lad in the car accident died in Australia through no fault of his own.
Anyway - best not to dwell on it too much. I got on with, and liked all of them. RIP to them all.

I have one mate from school die of a heart attack there in January and have another mate from school have a stroke. It does make you stop and think and remind you that you are getting older.
I met a lad I went to school with coincidentally there a about a fortnight ago. Diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago. Never smoked in his life. Doing well though. Is in remission ftm.

We’d a good few in our year but it was bigger than one class. Brain tumour, motorbike crash, a fella died in his sleep, pancreatic cancer, another lad died trying to climb into his apartment on his stag.
Was that in your year farmer or your smaller class.
We lost two during school, from our year. One to a fire in first year and another to a car crash in Leaving cert.
4/5 gone since between car crash and illnesses. Leave you quare numb.
