Should divisional teams be in all Ireland club championships?

I think what they are saying it’s far too easy to be senior. I guess the idea is the base standard for senior should be similar in most counties.

Of course they should have, but there’s no point keeping teams at senior for the sake of it, it benefits no one. 8-12 are the absolute max I could possibly see any county having that are competitive and you are seriously pushing it at that in most places

If every county had similar numbers it would also help in moving towards a working club calendar

You play the system you’re in. You can’t put any fault on players. It’s the people who design the structure need to be realistic about what is best for the county as opposed to a simplistic parochial view.

The point being is @Cicero_Dandi is claiming kerry should have more than eight senior clubs. Take Tralee, listowel and Killarney out of it and most clubs are tiny. I think 8 is plenty. In limerick we don’t really have 8 senior hurling clubs.

Anyway, while the system might suit Kerry for the Intermediate & Junior it could actually seriously disadvantage them in the seniors. Stacks aren’t the best club in Kerry by a long way.

How could it be a serious disadvantage for them at senior? It’s a closed shop picked from the 8 best clubs. Has it a backdoor too?

Bizarre logic mate, they have promotion and relegation same as anywhere, if that’s a closed shop then every senior championship is a closed shop.

The current format means Stacks who won the club championship played in April, will go on to represent Kerry despite being knocked out after losing the first two rounds of the championship to Dingle & East Kerry.
They only started back training again recently when it became obvious there was a chance (if Crokes lost the final) they’d be back in. They’ve been out of training and are out of form anyway

How many senior clubs are in Kilkenny

Back doors and the top 8 teams, I fail to see how it is unfair. As far as I can see only 3 different clubs have represented Kerry at provincial level in the last decade. What does that tell you?

That Crokes have been exceptionally good winning winning 7 out of the 10?

It’s a closed shop.

Id say Listowel have never won a kerry senior title have they?

Laune Rangers?

That’s killorglin. Listowel, despite producing the Kennellys and a few more, are a bit shit. I’d say they haven’t been senior in 15 years and before that they were hardly ever senior either. They play with feale rangers and would have won a senior with them in 00’s when they’d have had Fitzmaurice and Galvin from Finuge.
But even feale rangers are shit and would be one of the weakest of the divisional sides by far. Then the divisions are lopsided in a way that could only happen in the GAA. Designed by committee as they say

dungeon this shit

Not Listowel

Kilmallock and Patrickswell.

Listowel Emmets have gone to complete shit in recent years. There was a wedding of a player in the club a few years ago when it became common knowledge that over half the team/panel were off their heads on cocaine. This was in front of the club hierarchy.

This lead to a serious division in the club with the club hierarchy more or less losing interest as they wanted little to do with the coke heads.

Billy Keane has written a few bits in recent times about cocaine in clubs and it all comes back to this. A real life example of how drugs are destroying GAA clubs.

Emmets are now a Junior/Division 3 team and it will take a few generations to recover.
