How do you know then that it was the Orange Order that McDowell was portraying?
Maybe he was just showing his Irishness?

Do you think we should have two rugby teams representing the country KIB? Could be called the 7 Nations now. Should 26 county teams only be allowed enter All Ireland? Afterall Northern Ireland isn’t part of Ireland according to you.

Wearing an orange pants on Orange Day… I reckon it was showing his support of the Orange Order anyway but that could be a real pie in the sky shot.
No, No, No, Yes.
I support greater social cohesion between the the two cultures. Sport is one of the best ways to achieve this.
Actually what is the reason that there is just one Irish team for rugby but two for soccer. I would have thought rugby would be seen as more of a unionist upperclass sport than soccer. I wouldnt mind if both sides came together for soccer too on the condition that Ireland’s Call was shelved.
Says the guy who only recognises 26 counties in Ireland.

What two cultures? Name one cultural trait/cultural focuspoint that exists in the 26 counties and doesn’t exist in the north? I don’t know anyone who is proud of their republic of irish culture anyway.
FAI separated from IFA is the reason for two soccer teams. Team representing the north called themselves Ireland up til the 50’s though. Would like to see one team representing the country obviously and would take Ireland’s Call as an anthem if that’s the consequence.
I’m not fan of the Orange Order but I don’t think calling them sectarian really suggests an understanding of the issue.
They’re a religious organisation - of course they’re sectarian. Just like every other religious organisation in the world with the possible exception of those wonderfully tolerant Quaker folk.
Lawremce, I know where you’re coming from on other parts of Irish culture being a greater threat tou our independence than membership of an antiquated union like the commonwealth but you have to recognise how powerful a symbol of oppression the british crown has been in Ireland and around the world.
I’m all for a unified Ireland and I understand your reasoning for preferring unification than segregated partial independence but regression is not the way forward. You can be anti-treaty and anti-partitionist but recognise the fact that these have become the status quo so this is the starting point for improvement.
First the orange part of the tricolour represents the orange order, now this, one more for the hat trick
What are you shiteing about - you said that you think Northern Ireland is part of the UK?
He also said Northern Ireland isn’t part of Ireland which I found particularly strange.
How should we define Ireland then?
Four provinces, 32 counties, two states currently ruling over different parts of island.
The orange part of the tricolour recognises the supporters of William of Orange within Ireland, The Orange Order commenerates William of Orange.
Also what about those people in Northern Ireland who say they are Irish? Sure how could they be? They are on the island of Ireland and only by chance have found themselves in the same area as a predominantly unionist population. They have no right to call themselves Irish. You’re right.

Some good points there. Interestingly Leitrim has a branch.

A backtrack already ;). The Orange part of the tricolour represents all Protestants, unionists and dissenter not just those that are supporters of William of Orange who interestingly died years before the tricolour was unveiled. The last part of that paragraph is correctish, The Orange Order commemorates the victory at the Boyne not particularly the lifestyle choices of King Billy or anything else about him either I would have thought. Its supremacist, sectarian, bigoted and an insult to the many Protestant people who are disgusted by it.
Let them say what the like. If they want to think they are Irish let them off. I’m sure some Austrians consider themselves Germanic. Legally they are British rightly or wrongly tho.
What a ridiculous comparison.
Nationality is an imposed ideology, that’s why you can never get to the bottom of these disputs. It’s entirely subjective. It doesn’t really matter either.
Something you dont agree with and its ridiculous
I think just because Ireland is an island, people assume it should be united regardless of anything else.

What difference would it make? What is the actual argument for unification?
Correct me if I’m wrong but is the flag not Green, White & Gold
