Over the coming days and weeks I’ll be making a series of imaginary bets on real sporting events in this imaginary thread in an attempt to make an imaginary profit, to spend on imaginary Christmas presents for imaginary friends.
Bet 1: Rayo Vallecano and Valencia to draw @ 23/10 (in running - 61 mins gone)
Stake €5
Potential profit: €11.50
Bet 2: Dallas Cowboys to beat Chicago Bears @ 10/21
Stake: €10
Potential profit: €4.76
A mug’s mistake, you could say. Paddy Power is the bookie, as I imagine it will be for almost all bets here, as the most well known Irish bookie, and therefore the bookie that mugs like myself bet with (even if only in their imagination).
Bet 3:
Double: Graeme Dott to beat Stuart Bingham @11/8 and Ronnie O’Sullivan to beat Anthony McGill @1/10
Stake: €10
Potential profit: €16.10
Bookie: Coral

Bet 5 is a WINNER.
New balance* : + €26.46
Enough for five imaginary pints tonight.
*They’re making Liverpool’s kit from next season by the way - I’ve seen the rumoured design and it’s awful.
What has really impressed me about my tips has been the correct rationale of even the losing bets.
In Bet 1, I correctly surmised that Valencia would fight back, but was undone by one of the worst goalkeeping mistakes of the season.
In Bet 3, Graeme Dott led 4-1 but was undone by a horrible kick at a crucial stage with the frame at his mercy to make it 5-1. Then in the deciding frame he made an outstandng long pot but very unluckily went in-off into the middle pocket and Bingham cleaned up. Graeme had a horrible run of luck during the match.
In Bet 4, the first half was a dour affair with defences very much on top. It looked a very likely candidate for a 0-0 draw.
It’s obviously unfortunate these bets didn’t come off, but as @The Selfish Giant said on the Kev’s Sporting Bets thread, punters who backed them will at least be pleased that the rationale behind them was correct.
