I reckon that ‘old firm’ thing is all put on.
Not so long as they keep shitting in our shoes and we keep pissing in their Bovril, it isn’t.
Lot of Scotland support from the North of Scotland, who’s have no truck with the ‘Old Firm’. Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers have a huge footix cohort in their support as well.
Command most of their support from regional areas & backers of smaller/lower league clubs. A lot of low key orange bastards all the same. On a related note, I don’t think @Bisto ‘s claim of Celtic supporters getting after the Oirish unjustly is entirely fair in a general sense. MON is rightly revered, I would give him Scales (harsh criticism at times) but Kenny & Idah can’t have any complaints. The fact their replacements have been shit/worse is a separate point. But there is a growing trend of some Hamishes, Camerons & even Seáns & John Pauls in the Celtic support following Scotland in recent years though so maybe Bisto is onto something.
Albeit before your time but Don’t remember fan favourite Andy payton getting such a doing as Idah for scoring less goals .
Wayne Biggins adored
Jonny Kenny hated
Celtic signed Martin Hayes in the summer of 1990. They thought they were getting the fiddle player from Clare but it was actually the not very good Arsenal striker.
Very hard to compare across eras though. I think Idah is what he is, he’s already settled into the backup striker role at Swansea. You just want to give him a shake as he has lots of good attributes but he lacks a ruthlessness or killer instinct. He could be awfully frustrating to watch week to week.
