Ah no!
A giant of 1970s light entertainment
Marty played all the hits today
Marty Whelan?
I caught some of his breakfast show on Lyric FM a few weeks ago and thought it so superior to other stations.
I always liked Marty.
A friend of mine who has had his struggles with alcohol was in the throes of the DTâs one night and saw Roger Whittaker standing at the end of his bed dressed in a duffel coat singing The Whistler
I wouldnât listen to it every day but itâs a grand show to dip into. A sound auld skin.
How did Roger get in?

I feel a gag coming here
He must have picked the lock with his flute.
Seemed a good guy. Had a few interactions with him years ago and was a good supporter of all sorts of music coming from Ireland.
He was a live wire. Lived on Guinness. I remember attending a âCabaret Craicailteâ in some establishment on Dame Lane and the place jammed with mostly 20-somethings, bouncing around, flirting and going mad to the music. Nobody apart from him in my memory has been able to achieve that through the Irish language. He made it fun, sexy and chaoticâŚwhen it is almost exclusively dull, wooden and two steps from the death rattle.
This is very sad.

A great man.
Famed Irish-American philanthropist Chuck Feeney dies aged 92
The entrepreneur donated most of his fortune while still alive, much of it to Irish causes
He did more for Limerick than the much lauded JP.
UL would only be a few prefabs only for him.
For a long time he was adamant that his various contributions would remain anonymous.
He seemed to primarily fund research centres, hospitals and the likes.
He also demanded proper evidence of controls and spend within budget before he handed anything over.
He could be credited with inspiring JP perhaps
Read his biography. Extraordinary man who had an extraordinary life
