This is a genuinely outstanding feature.

The Goat

Amazing how he just came up with that in five minutes. Roy Curtis is one of our great modern poets.

It just flows from Roy.

Like scutter from a goose.

Roy understands that sport is about feelings. It’s about places, sounds, smells, times of the year, the angle of the sun, and people. It’s about tradition and lineage, about precious things being handed down to you, and you minding them and handing them on, still precious. Few who are in positions of power in sporting organisations now understand that.

For about a decade we had him on the radio over the TV.

Fantastic commentator in a non conventional type of way.

Made a big effort to come across as a gentleman but very fond of the coin though.

Some achievement by mayo to lose 11 all Irelands since 89.

There’s fellas in their mid 40s from mayo who’ve seen some misery.

‘Is that Padraig Joyce’s nine-nth point?’

I recall that from the Joyce show in 2001.

Between himself and Donncha Ó’Dúlaing we’ll never see broadcasters of that ilk ever again and we’ll be worse off for it.

Dedicating this Clonmel Chardonnay to the great man.

As this is on the topic of RTE Radio GAA presenters, I will wait for Mickey Harte’s view before I say anymore.
