Significant people's (not celebrities) deaths

Former Dáil deputy for DMW and Fianna Fáil stalwart Seán Sherwin RIP.

Sean spent most of his life in the background in the party HQ on Lr.Mount St. on organisational matters and the like but was known to be a man of principle with a sharp mind.

He sided with Kevin Boland in the aftermath of the arms issue which transpired to being political suicide but after a cooling off period rejoined FF.

Joe Don Baker

RIP
One of those ‘that guy’ actors that everyone recognised in fillums in his day.
The William Fichtner of his time - did he play Felix Leiter once? He was definitely in at least one Bond.

Paul Durcan, poet

Sorry to hear that. He came to the school to read his poetry to us when we were kids and it left me with a lifelong love of poetry. Not like that surly Wexford cunt Thomas Kinsella.

Football journalist Brian Glanville

Durcan always came across as an absolute gent.

Kinsella was a Dub from Inchicore…married to a wexford woman I believe. Some of his poetry was inspired by visits to her homeplace

My father had him as a tutor in college. My father says he used to rock up to college in a Honda 50.

Everybody of my vintage knows that Thomas Kinsella only wrote two poems and they were both shite

Mirror in February is a brilliant poem, the futility of it all.Nature replenishes, man doesn’t .
if I remember correctly, both poems suggest a man deeply depressed , one is staring in a mirror seeing himself age and the other is being in the sack with missus in her home place and he feeling like an alien. It’s 25 years plus since I read them so please allow for frailties of the mind
