RTE Sport’s Pat McAuliffe RIP.
I genuinely liked his match updates and reports.

Jaysus. He must have been young enough
Some man to catch a bainisteoir or player at the end of a match for a few words.
He would have been perfect for the role of Gerald McCarthy had there ever been a film made about the Cork hurlers strike.
Was Pat the lad always given the Camogie games on The Sunday Game before RTE went on an equality buzz?
He was one of the better RTE reporters.
He was, he was always left covering camogie matches.
He was one of the few “around the ground” match reporters on RTE who’d consistently tell listeners helpful and accurate things like the score, scorers and important events like red cards or missed penalties. One of the few competent people in there covering sport.
A young man too. RIP.
I’m a bit shook by that to be honest.
Was it Pat who did the commentary on the Munster Club football final in 2017 where the Tipp champions got a late minute goal, D’arby-esque, to win it by a point over the Cork champions?
Brilliant commentary.
I presume twas that cunt of a disease that took him?
It was
His match report for yesterday’s ramblers city u19 game is on today’s echo
There’s a link to that commentary here.
That is fucking magic!
That’s very sad. RIP
An amazing moment. That’s what wet, windy, wild winter Sunday afternoons in Ireland are all about. Radio is such a great medium when done well.
I love the radio and for all their faults RTÉ can be very good at it.
I can still recall where I was when I heard it- in the car on the N4 approaching Liffey Valley.
According to the sports bulletin on the News at One, he died suddenly this morning.
RIP.
Ah God. RIP
