Presume you’re thinking of Andre Venter. He wasn’t involved in 1995 but was in the back row against the British Lions in 1997. Don’t think he’s passed away, but he has motor neuron disease as well.

Did he play for Western Province as well?

Small was from Cape Town, he might have played for Transvaal though. Small used to claim he was discriminated against because he was of English extraction and not Afrikaner. Mark Andrews another of English extraction from that era.

Was Joel Stransky Jewish ?

Small played for western province. Bentley scored twice against him in an early tour game. The Lions were excellent in that game they ran the ball from everywhere.

I must have watched Living with the Lions 50 times. I remember more about the 1997 tour than any of more recent ones

He had some Jewish blood.

it was one of the greatest Lions tours of all time

The all blacks played their part on a wonderful occasion . The won more respect in defeat that day than they did in “victory” in 2011 final .

Patches O’Houlihan actor Rip Thorn, also in MIB and the Larry Sanders show amongst other things
