A photographer who went missing off the coast of Wales has made contact with gardaí after his vessel drifted across the Irish sea.

A major search operation had been under way after Chris Ellery failed to return after sailing out of Fishguard in an inflatable boat on Wednesday.

It was stood down yesterday after the 54-year-old walked into a garda station in Co Wicklow and made himself known.

Multiple coast guard helicopters, Dyfed Powys Police, as well as RNLI volunteers from five lifeboat stations had been involved in the search off the coast of Wales.

The Fishguard RNLI said that Mr Ellery was known to have had experience in solo excursions.

Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer Cedwyn Rogers described the outcome as “fantastic for the casualty and his family following what must have been a very concerning time for them”.

He added that those going on solo trips should always make sure another person is kept informed of their plans and that they have adequate means to keep in contact at all times.

Mr Ellery’s daughter Kenzie took to Facebook to thank everyone for their support during the search.

She told RTÉ News the family hopes to be reunited with him soon.

She said that some of the details are “still vague” but that her father is “alive, safe, and well”.

*Posting on X, Taoiseach Simon Harris said it was a “remarkable story”.

He wrote: "Welcome to Wicklow Chris Ellery! I’m sure your family and the Welsh emergency services are unbelievably relieved*.”

Not the micro economy no.
Hospitality, small local businesses and food/drink are all fucked.

We’re marching to the beat of mncs running their profits through Ireland.
