Cheer up Danny at least you are banging Kelly Brooke
Danny Cipriani will not feature for England against Italy on Saturday after being dropped down to the Saxons squad.
The move has been made by manager Martin Johnson to allow the fly-half, who was dropped for England’s final autumn Test against New Zealand, to get some match practice.
The 21-year-old will line up alongside scrum-half Harry Ellis in the Saxons side that takes on Ireland A in Dublin on Friday night.
It means Leicester’s Toby Flood now seems certain to start at number 10 for England at Twickenham. Former Tigers team-mate Andy Goode has been added to the Elite Player Squad.
Game time
“Harry and Danny will spend this week with the Saxons as they prepare to play Ireland A on Friday,” Johnson said.
"Both players remain in my plans for the RBS 6 Nations, but I would like to see them get some game time with the Saxons.
“Harry benefited from playing with them last week, and I will be in regular contact with Saxons head coach Stuart Lancaster during the course of the week.”
Goode, who can be called up in the week of a Test because he falls outside of the RFU/PRL agreement, is one of three players to be drafted in.
Gloucester wing James Simpson-Daniel and uncapped Saracens prop Tom Mercey have also reported to training.
The duo will provide cover for injury doubts Harlequins’ Ugo Monye, who is struggling with a back problem, and prop Tim Payne of Wasps, who has sore abdominal muscles.
Johnson is due to name his starting XV to face the Italians on Tuesday
