Trimble had to start but then again he had to start last week too. Wallace on bench is a joke. Start him or don’t but this fooking around with him is plain stupid. I’d have Spence ahead of McFadden by the way
I’m over Kidney being the most successful coach we ever had (Munster included), he’s just being stubborn now. I’m also over this beat the auld enemy crack. Beat them when it matters in the WC, and prepare now for it.
Ah stop Larry. McFadden has even proved himself at this level. He’s been made a clown of. But i’d have Spence ahead of Wallace.
I think you’re getting carried away with how much McFadden has proved himself at this level. He’s played a couple of games and looked ok in both of them. Not saying he was a disaster or shouldn’t be picked but people are drawing an awful lot of conclusions form those two performances when the reality was he was particularly quiet against Italy and decent enough against France. He’s far from proven at provincial level even. Good player and having a much better season this time but he’s not Bowe or O’Driscoll and wouldn’t be getting a look in if Trimble, Kearney and Bowe had been fit from the start.
How on earth has McFadden proved himself at this level? Would love to see him do well but big case of blinkers to say he has proved himself. Was nothing better than distinctly average in two games to be honest.
Eh 2 performances as oppossed to none Rocko? Larry wants Spence to start saturday. I’m only getting carried away in where he is in the pecking order, he’s no World beater yet.
D’Arcy isn’t as good as McFadden going on any form of last 6 months. You are picking Trimble based on Ulster form, think its fair enough to base McFadden on his Leinster form as well. He was also far more solid than his more experienced peers in the Internationals he played so far.
Dropping Luke Fitz completely as well is wrong. I’d have Boss in there as well.
Of course he has, he has proved he is up to the level. Thats all Trimble has done either, he’s never exactly torn the place up. I’m not saying McFadden is, or i expect him to be, Brian O’ Driscoll.
Luke Fitz was truely appalling on weekend. He had to be dropped imo. Trimble had an excellent summer tour too kev don’t forget. If two average performances means McFadden should be in ahead of Spence then we have different criteria for selecting players. Going on provincial form I think they have both been excellent but Spence would just shade it.
Ah thats just silly kev. Trimble has had many good games for Ireland. McFadden hasn’t. Have you forgotten summer tour? Trimble was our best player against NZ by a country mile. Far more proven player than McFadden. Saying otherwise is just deluding yourself.
I’m not suggesting McFadden over Trimble, just pointing out they are adequate International players.
Spence should be brought in against an Italy or some other sort of lesser game that playing England in such a big game. Thats the thrust of what i’m saying. Trimble is a better winger than McFadden. But McFadden is now a better centre than D’Arcy IMO.
Fair enough and you make valid point regarding when to blood players. Would agree with you on D’arcy also. Most frustrating thing for me about this six nations is fact that Kidney doesn’t appear to have learned anything. One thing losing but another is losing and us doing nothing to rectify problems that are there.
How can Eoin Reddan play a week after being concussed?
Wondered as much myself, hence the unsure smiley, seems ridiculous to me, but they’ve long since cared in rugby. For proof, see Brian O Driscolls “migraines”. Migraines my hole.
They dispensed with the time rule in rugby a long time ago and it’s done on medical assessment.
Think you’re grossly understating Trimble’s form Kev. He was excellent for Ireland in the summer and very good for Ulster since. McFadden is a way short of that. You’re not comparing them now but that was the original comparison made.
No, my comparison was between Spence and McFadden. I used Trimble because you included Ulster form in your picking of Trimble, so i was saying if its good enough for him its good enough for McFadden.
For what its worth i’d have them both playing.
I have lost faith in Kidney to be honest, feel he’s just got stubborn and cranky.
Yea I was aware of that, but its still a load of bullshit imo. The situation regarding head injuries in rugby is a farce. I recall Englands Chris Ashton playing an entire game against SA recently and I’d safely say he doesnt remember a single minute of the game after taking an early belt to the head. The O Driscoll thing is another one, just doesnt seem right the treatment they’re getting.
Enjoyable game in Murrayfield, awful pity teams don’t play more like this all the time. Great game when teams have a go.
mon ireland.
